Rattan Lal Kataria, a prominent BJP leader and three-time Member of Parliament from Ambala, sadly passed away on Thursday morning at PGIMER, Chandigarh.  The 71-year-old leader had been battling a prolonged illness. In response to his demise, the Haryana government announced a one-day state mourning on Thursday.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, along with several other BJP leaders, visited Kataria's residence in the morning to offer their condolences to the grieving family. Leaders from various political parties also expressed their sympathies to the bereaved family. The final rites of Kataria will take place at the Manimajra cremation ground.

Rattan Lal Kataria, the Member of Parliament (MP) from Ambala constituency in Haryana representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), passed away on Thursday after battling pneumonia.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Home Minister Anithe l Vij had visited him at PGI in recent days. On May 4, Kataria and his wife Banto Kataria celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary at PGI.

Kataria served as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment until July 7, 2021. He was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha from Ambala, defeating Congress candidate Raj Kumar Balmiki.

Prior to that, he had also been elected to the 13th Lok Sabha from Ambala as a BJP candidate.

Rattan Lal Kataria, a former Union minister and Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Ambala constituency, passed away on Thursday at the age of 71. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and state BJP unit chief Om Prakash Dhankar expressed their heartfelt condolences on his demise.

Kataria had been receiving medical treatment at PGIMER for the past month before his unfortunate passing at around 3:30 am, as confirmed by an aide. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son.

Expressing his grief, Chief Minister Khattar tweeted in Hindi, expressing deep sadness over the loss of the former Union Minister of State and MP from Ambala, Ratan Lal Kataria.

Khattar acknowledged Kataria's dedication to raising important issues in Parliament for the betterment of society and the progress of the people of Haryana, emphasizing that his departure leaves an irreplaceable void in the world of politics.

Rattan Lal Kataria, born on December 19, 1951, was a prominent Indian politician hailing from Haryana. He held the position of Minister of State in the Ministry of Jal Shakti and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment until July 7, 2021.

Kataria served as a member of the 16th Lok Sabha, representing the Ambala constituency. He secured his seat in the Lok Sabha by contesting on behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party, receiving an impressive 612,121 votes out of a total of 1,220,121 votes, defeating his opponent Raj Kumar Balmiki from the Indian National Congress.

Prior to his tenure in the 16th Lok Sabha, Kataria had also been elected as a member of the 13th Lok Sabha from the Ambala constituency, again as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He completed his education at Kurukshetra University.
