Resident Evil 4 Chapter 1 Wiki

Resident Evil 4 is a survival horror game and it was released on January 11, 2005. Resident Evil 4 was created by Capcom Production Studio 4 and released for the GameCube in 2005. Players take on the role of special agent Leon S. Kennedy, who embarks on a mission to rescue the US president's daughter, Ashley Graham, from a religious cult in rural Spain. Leon fights against hordes of mind-controlled enemies infected with parasites and reunites with spy Ada Wong. Unlike previous Resident Evil games, Resident Evil 4 features a dynamic camera system and action-oriented gameplay instead of fixed camera angles and slower gameplay. Resident Evil 4's development began in 1999 for PlayStation 2 with four versions being discarded until Shinji Mikami took over as the director for the final version. Originally announced as part of Capcom Five for GameCube, it was a collaboration between Capcom and Nintendo to create five GameCube exclusives to boost hardware sales and demonstrate third-party support. The first version was directed by Hideki Kamiya but was spun-off into Devil May Cry due to it straying too far from the series' roots, recommended by Shinji Mikami.  Resident Evil 4 is widely acclaimed for its storyline, gameplay, graphics, voice acting, and characters, and has won multiple Game of the Year awards in 2005. With over 11 million copies sold and ported to various platforms, it has become a cross-platform hit. The game has influenced the survival horror and third-person genres, introducing the "over-the-shoulder" third-person view used in games like Dead Space and The Last of Us. A remake of the game was released in 2023.

Resident Evil 4 Chapter 1 Walkthrough

In Chapter 1 of Resident Evil 4, players are introduced to a new world filled with parasitic viruses and religious extremism, set in a rural Spanish village. Six years after the events of Resident Evil 2, Leon S. Kennedy is tasked with rescuing the President's daughter as part of a government task force. However, after losing his escorts to an attack, Leon is immediately thrown into a fight for survival against violent villagers and formidable enemies. Scroll down for a detailed walkthrough.

Hunter’s Lodge

After the opening cutscene in Resident Evil 4, players must proceed down the forest path under the barbed wire and enter a darkened house. Inside, they must explore until they reach a decorated doorway and take a right through another door, triggering a cutscene. After the scene, players should take the Hunter's Lodge Key from Ganado's body and use it on the ornate door to descend into the basement. Here, they will find a police officer's body and be attacked by their first enemy. Players can either struggle or stun their attacker with their knife's durability. After defeating the enemy, players can choose to engage in combat or run past another villager before heading upstairs to trigger a cutscene and exit the house.

Approaching the Village

After crossing the bloody bridge, players can find a run-down cabin and a breakable barrel containing ammo. Inside the cabin is the first typewriter where players can save, access storage and customise their inventory. Moving ahead and to the right, players can crouch under a fallen tree to encounter two enemies around a car. Careful players can avoid the bear trap further uphill and to the left. There is a small shack along the left path where players can find resources and face an enemy. Finally, players can open a large gate decorated with severed heads, leading to the Village Square, where they can witness a brutal execution through binoculars.

Village Square

Players can sneak around the houses to the left from the entrance and perform a stealth kill on a lone villager raking mud. However, eventually, they will have to face a large group of enemies in open combat to progress. In the Village Square, the player will face endless swarms of Ganados, who will use various weapons such as hatchets and bear traps. Using the parry mechanic, players can deflect these weapons and avoid taking too much damage. The fight will escalate when Dr. Salvador, also known as the Chainsaw Man, appears, who can instantly kill the player if they get too close. While it is possible to down him, killing him requires powerful ammunition that players are unlikely to have at this point. Instead, it is better to clear out the lesser Ganados while continuously looping the arena to keep a safe distance.

Farm

After finishing the battle in the Village Square, scavenge the area for any valuable items and continue through the gate at the northeastern tip of the map where the Chainsaw Man appeared. As Leon progresses, he will spot the windmill that Hunnigan mentioned. A typewriter can be found in a building to the right.  Proceed through the archway and enter a room on the right, being cautious of a tripwire that can be heard beeping in the distance. Disarm the explosive at the end of the corridor before taking the ladder up to the mill. Behind the mill, there's a Yellow Herb that will permanently increase Leon's health, and a missing gear that he must replace to progress. To obtain the gear, head through the door opposite the lever and drop down behind the barn. Follow the path and shoot the lock off the door to enter the barn. Quickly eliminate the lone villager before a fierce Cow-Headed beast breaks through the doors and attacks.

Fighting the Cowhead Ganado

Players have the option to avoid the difficult Cow-Headed beast fight altogether and simply retrieve the missing gear from the barn table before returning to the mill. However, for those who want a challenge, the fight requires strategic use of Leon's acquired gear. During the fight, Cowhead will use his large hammer to deal significant damage to Leon's health. However, players can dodge his attacks by crouching and then counterattack with either the Shotgun or Pistol. To make matters worse, lesser Ganados will join the attack, making it important for players to use any Flashbangs or Hand Grenades they have to control the crowd. Once Cowhead is defeated, players can collect some Velvet Blue from his corpse to sell to Resident Evil 4's Merchant.

Lakeside Settlement

Since the gate ahead cannot be opened, go right and move the cart blocking the path. Continue down the path until a villager triggers a landslide trap, forcing Leon to turn right.

While avoiding the hatchets thrown by the two Ganados on the bridge above, move forward and deal with any Resident Evil enemies along the way until Leon emerges from a tunnel and into the Lakeside Settlement. In front of Leon is a Ganado throwing pipe bombs from a window, urging players to move quickly through this area. Watch out for the bear trap guarding the gap in the fence ahead and the tripwired shack to the left. This area can be deadly, so beware of traps, stay vigilant, and take cover from the two grenadiers in the area.

After clearing and looting the area, head east and shoot the lock off the cabin door. In the back of the house, disarm the corridor tripwire and move the bookshelf aside in the second room. Eliminate the axe-wielding Ganado in the next room and open the hatch on the floor. In the basement, investigate the squirming body bag to trigger a cutscene and conclude the chapter.

Resident Evil 4 Chapter 1 Guide

The first chapter of Resident Evil 4 is a challenging mix of exploration and combat, with limited resources to start with and no boss fights. Our walkthrough for Chapter 1 of the Resident Evil 4 remake will guide you through every step, ensuring that you don't miss any important items and survive the Hunter's Lodge, Village Square, Farm, and Lakeside Settlement areas all the way to the end of the chapter. In the beginning of Resident Evil 4, players will arrive at a hunter's lodge and explore it to find a key and a file. The walkthrough guides players through the process of finding the Crude Charm file, the Hunter's Lodge key, and the Officer's Badge file. They will then use the key to open the locked door and head down to the basement.

ESCAPE FROM THE HUNTER’S LODGE

After exploring the basement, Leon's new friend turns into a zombie and attacks him. Once he's dealt with, Leon heads back upstairs, passing a hole in the wall where two enemies are guarding the room with the Crude Charm. He continues on and takes a right into a newly opened door, where he heads upstairs and triggers a cutscene.

HEAD FOR THE LAKE

The path outside is a straight shot, and after passing a collapsed building, there is a dead wolf on the left with handgun ammo in a drawer. There are also some pesetas in a crate in a collapsed building, and two locals past the rusted-out truck can be taken down with a couple of shots to the knees followed by some knife attacks. After passing a bear trap and taking out an angry local hiding behind a door, grab a red herb, a flash grenade, and some handgun ammo in a nearby shack. Ignore the decorative severed heads on the gate and use binoculars to watch villagers burn a cop before pushing forward.

VILLAGE SQUARE

The best approach to the village square is to focus on getting the Chainsaw Man to spawn and wrap up the fight quickly, then collect items. The strategy is to take a left from the binocular spot, silently take out the woman with the pitchfork, and grab resources. Craft anything possible, sprint forward, and take a right to duck into the door on the right. Head upstairs, grab the shotgun, knock down the ladder, and deal with the Chainsaw Man. Then, run around the village square, shooting villagers with headshots and kneecapping them to slow down and open them up to melee attacks. Once enough villagers are down, the town bell will ring and the fight will end.

VILLAGE SQUARE ITEMS

To collect all items in the village square, head back to where you entered and work counterclockwise. Take the first right and enter the shack to smash the crate and vault through the window for more resources. Head down the hill to find a crate and a wagon with a red herb. Take the next left and vault through another window to find a hand grenade, handgun ammo, and resources. Climb the tower for a green herb and head back down to vault through another window to find handgun ammo and an angry villager. Head to the east end of the square for another green herb and collect items from the shack on the right and the house on the left. Duck into the building past the gate for a red herb and save at the typewriter.

FARM

The guide provides instructions on how to find and shoot blue medallions to get treasures in Resident Evil 4. It also gives details on how to navigate through the farm, deal with enemies, and find resources such as pesetas and herbs. The guide ends by pointing out a crate with pesetas halfway through a tunnel. As the player progresses, they encounter a large man wearing a bull's head who smashes through a wall and must be defeated. They also encounter several villagers who block their path and throw dynamite. The walkthrough directs the player to follow a narrow path, push a meat wagon out of the way, and navigate around a rockslide to reach a tunnel. The guide advises the player to turn left at a bend in the tunnel to find a crate with pesetas inside. Overall, the walkthrough provides detailed instructions on how to navigate the environment, defeat enemies, and collect valuable items.

LAKESIDE SETTLEMENT

In this section of a video game walkthrough, the player encounters locals and a dynamite-thrower in a building. They must deal with tripwires, bear traps, and more dynamite to progress through the area. The player can collect pesetas, resources, handgun ammo, and shotgun shells by smashing objects and searching cabinets. They can also find the first Clockwork Castellan by looking at where the wall meets the rafters. After disarming tripwires and dealing with locals, the player finds a cabinet with gunpowder and opens a trapdoor to progress through the chapter.

Resident Evil 4 Chapter 1 Gameplay and Trailer

Resident Evil 4 is a third-person shooter video game that focuses on action and shootouts with fewer survival horror elements compared to the series' previous games. The inventory system features a grid system represented by an attaché case, and players can upgrade it several times to allow for more space. The game also includes a merchant who sells items, weapons, and allows for weapons to be upgraded. The main enemies in the game are violent villagers called Los Ganados, who can dodge and wield weapons like chainsaws and projectile weapons. They are capable of working collectively and communicating with each other. The game also features other prominent enemies like the Regenerators, El Gigante, and Del Lago. The game's PlayStation 2 version features additional content, including a side story called "Separate Ways" that focuses on Ada Wong's involvement in Resident Evil 4 and her connection to the series' villain Albert Wesker. Other unlockable content in all versions includes the minigame "The Mercenaries," a short scenario called "Assignment Ada," new costumes for Leon and Ashley, new weapons, and a cutscene browser.
