However, the detective is unable to arrest them for murder, due to the Mayor's pressure to keep the scandal low-key, to preserve the island's reputation and tourism prospects.

The detective discloses his findings, indicating that Alison might have been sexually assaulted before her demise. Although Edwin and Gogo were the last people seen with Alison, they have compelling alibis, and it seems unlikely for them to travel from Faraway Cay island to the mainland in such a brief time.
Despite the detective's personal doubts about Gogo and Edwin, Alison's death is ruled an accident. However, drugs were discovered at Gogo's residence, leading to his subsequent arrest.
