Slave Zero X Review

Slave Zero X is a new 2.5D action game from Poppy Works set in a dystopian world ruled by the tyrant Sovereign Khan (SovKhan). Playing as Shou, a member of The Guardians, you fight to overthrow the unjust rulers. The game takes place before the events of Slave Zero, where a similar struggle for power occurs.

In Slave Zero X, you merge with a stolen biomechanical weapon to take down the ruling class. Traversing the city of S1-9 is thrilling, with encounters ranging from fights atop speeding trains to dimly lit streets. The game's atmosphere, with 90s-style sprites and advanced lighting, adds to the experience.

Combat involves juggling enemies with combo attacks, best experienced with a controller. The shifting axis of the 2.5D world adds complexity to fights, while encounters with various enemy types keep gameplay engaging.

Boss battles are challenging but manageable with practice. Accessibility features include options to adjust screen effects and subtitles. The game features a compelling soundtrack that complements its retro aesthetic.

Despite its strengths, Slave Zero X can feel repetitive due to crowded fights and challenging boss battles. Overall, it offers an enjoyable experience for fans of action games.

Slave Zero

Slave Zero is a video game that came out in 1999. It was made for old computers like Windows 95 and Windows 98. People who wanted to play it on newer computers had to use special programs to make it work. These programs were made by fans and let people play the game if they had bought it legally. The game was made by a company called Infogrames North America.

In 2015, another company called Tommo got the rights to the game and started selling it again for modern computers. They did this through a brand called Retroism. Later, in 2014, the game was put up for sale on a website called GOG.com and also on a platform called Steam with the help of another company called Night Dive Studios.

Then, in June 2022, a company called Ziggurat Interactive, which owns the rights to Slave Zero, said they were making a new game called Slave Zero X. It's a prequel, which means it tells a story that happened before the events of the original game. Slave Zero X was released on February 21, 2024, and you can play it on different game consoles like PlayStation and Xbox, as well as on the Nintendo Switch and on computers.

In the game, set 500 years from now, Earth is ruled by a powerful leader called the SovKhan from a huge city called Megacity S1-9. The only ones fighting against the SovKhan are a group of ancient warriors known as the Guardians.

The SovKhan has a big army, and his strongest soldiers are giant robots called "Slaves." These Slaves are made using special technology and a mysterious substance called NTR95879, which the Guardians call "dark matter."

The Guardians capture one of these Slave robots and plan to put the mind of one of their best fighters into it. This new robot, called "Slave Zero," will help the Guardians fight against the SovKhan. The game follows Slave Zero as he battles the SovKhan's forces all over Megacity S1-9.
