Snowpiercer

Snowpiercer is a television series that first aired on TNT on May 17, 2020, and is set in a post-apocalyptic dystopian world. The show is based on the 2013 film of the same name, directed by Bong Joon-ho, and the 1982 French graphic novel, Le Transperceneige, written by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand, and Jean-Marc Rochette, which was adapted into the film.

The series is a reboot of the film's storyline and follows the passengers aboard the Snowpiercer, a colossal train that continuously travels around the world, carrying the remaining survivors of humanity seven years after the world becomes a frozen wasteland. The show delves into themes of class struggle, social inequality, and survival politics.

The cast includes Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Mickey Sumner, Alison Wright, Iddo Goldberg, Susan Park, Katie McGuinness, Sam Otto, Sheila Vand, Mike O'Malley, Annalise Basso, Jaylin Fletcher, Lena Hall, and Roberto Urbina. The second season saw the addition of Steven Ogg, Rowan Blanchard, and Sean Bean to the main cast, while Chelsea Harris and Archie Panjabi joined in the third season.

Snowpiercer Ending Explained

The third season finale of Snowpiercer showcased the train's division between the passengers who wanted to remain on board with Melanie Cavill and those who followed Andre Layton to New Eden. After Cavill betrayed Layton, we saw her revert to her old self, but fortunately, both Cavill and Layton chose to avoid repeating past mistakes. Instead of another war, each passenger was allowed to choose their own future, either staying on Snowpiercer or going to New Eden.

New Eden refers to the Horn of Africa region, where it may be warm enough to establish a community beyond the train, based on data collected during a six-month-long expedition over the second and third seasons. After an arduous journey, the passengers disembarked from the train for the first time in seven years, feeling the sun on their faces and seeing that Layton's theory about the region was correct.

However, Snowpiercer has been renewed for a fourth season, which promises more challenges, crises, and action. Before we move on, we need to answer some questions about the Season 3 finale. For example, who stayed and who went? The division of Snowpiercer occurred at Ag-sec, with Cavill keeping the front half and the Eternal Engine, and Layton receiving the Big Alice as his engine.

While an accurate count of who accompanied Layton to New Eden was not revealed, we can see that Tail and many characters from the other classes followed their leader. Those who remained with Cavill were mostly from the higher classes, along with Cavill's lover Bennett Knox, Miss Audrey, Miles, Dr. Pelton, Gilles, Bess Till, who is now lead Brakeman, and Tristan, who is now Head of Hospitality.

The farewell of all these characters was emotional, particularly because there is no assurance that they will see each other again. Cavill and Layton agreed to take care of each other's children, as Miles opted to stay on Snowpiercer and train to become an engineer, and Alex decided to explore New Eden.

Snowpiercer Series Plot

In the final episode of Snowpiercer's third season, we witnessed the division of the train's passengers into two factions - one led by Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly), who wanted to remain aboard the Snowpiercer, and the other led by Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs), who chose to leave for New Eden.

When Cavill betrayed Layton after being brought back to life, she reverted to her former self from the first season, but both leaders decided not to repeat their previous mistakes. Rather than engage in another bloody conflict, each passenger was given the freedom to decide their own future, whether it be staying in the safety of Snowpiercer or venturing into the unknown of New Eden.

The Horn of Africa region, named New Eden, is believed to be a suitable place for building a community outside of the train, according to data collected during a six-month expedition that took place during the second and third seasons. This region had not been explored earlier due to the hazardous condition of the tracks, but after a rough ride over an old bridge, the passengers stepped off the train for the first time in seven years. As they experience the warmth of the sun and witness Layton's theory come to fruition, there is newfound hope that everything will be alright.
