What is Starfield Overdesigned Mission?

In Starfield, the "Overdesigned" mission is a task assigned by your fellow Constellation member, Walter Stroud. The mission offers a reward of 9000 credits and 200 XP, but the most exciting part is that you can choose one of two spaceships, either the Kepler R or the Kepler S.

The ship you receive is determined by the choices you make while completing the mission. Walter Stroud asks for your help with his ship manufacturing business, specifically with designing a new spaceship. Your decisions during the mission impact the ship's final design.

The Kepler S is a smaller ship option, while the Kepler R is more powerful and well-equipped. Your choices, like budget allocation and feedback to the team, guide which ship you'll receive as a reward. It's a unique mission where your decisions shape your in-game experience.

Starfield Overdesigned Mission Quest Guide

Choosing Your Ship

Before starting the "Overdesigned" quest, it's important to know which ship you want to build. There are two options, and your choices throughout the mission will affect the outcome. Here are the ships:

Kepler S: It's a smaller ship with excellent engines, lots of cargo space, and a powerful grav drive. However, it comes without weapons, so you'll need to buy and add them later. You'll need Piloting skill level 3 to fly it.

Kepler R: This ship is superior to Kepler S in every way. It has a better grav drive, shields, double the crew capacity, more fuel, and comes equipped with weapons. It's heavier and less maneuverable but highly valuable. You'll need Piloting skill level 4 to fly it.

Starting the Quest

  • Complete the "No Sudden Moves" quest with Walter Stroud in Neon.

  • Visit Walter again in the Lodge in New Atlantis, and he'll inform you about issues at his ship manufacturing business.

  • Accept Walter's request to help him at the Stroud-Eklund Staryard.

Reaching the Staryard

  • Fast-travel to the planet Deepala in the Nairon Star System (Northeast of Sol and Alpha Centauri Systems).

  • Select Deepala and travel to the Stroud-Eklund Staryard.

Inside the Staryard

  • Approach the Staryard and request permission to board.

  • Dock and enter the Stroud-Eklund Staryard.

  • Head to the meeting room and speak to Jules Degante.

Making Choices

  • Choose your ship's budget: Small budget for Kepler S or the big budget for Kepler R. For the big budget, you might need to persuade Jules successfully.

  • Speak to everyone around the table, critiquing ideas for Kepler S or offering positive responses for Kepler R.

  • Complete one or two missions from the Mission Board (one bounty mission and one cargo mission) to gather market data. You can get both ships by completing only one mission if your ship isn't large enough for the cargo mission.

  • Afterward, either ask everyone to compromise for Kepler S or guide the team in an awkward meditation session for Kepler R.

  • Speak to Jules Degante again to finalize the ship design.

Completing the Quest

  • Return to Walter Stroud at the Lodge to complete the quest and receive your new ship. You can find the ship in your fleet menu.

Starfield Gameplay

Starfield is an action role-playing video game offering players the choice between a first-person and third-person perspective at any moment. Set within the Milky Way galaxy, it boasts a vast open world with both fictional and real planetary systems. Exploration involves the ability to land on over 1,000 planets, numerous moons, and space stations.

The game's landscapes are primarily procedurally generated but are later fine-tuned with handcrafted elements. The terrain, alien life, and points of interest on planets are determined by the star they orbit, the atmosphere, and the player's proximity. Notably, Starfield features New Atlantis, Bethesda's largest fictional city.

Players encounter various NPCs during their explorations, some of whom can join their crew, aiding in combat and interactions. The player's character is customizable, with backgrounds and traits influencing their abilities. Skills are developed through experience, unlocking abilities across five distinct skill trees. Combat offers a variety of weapons, all customizable, alongside jetpacks for enhanced mobility.

Resource scanning, outpost construction, and spaceship customization are key gameplay elements, allow players to acquire, upgrade, and modify their ships. Ship combat involves strategic power allocation, and players can board other spacecraft for various interactions, including plundering, trading, or commandeering.
