Steamworld Build Layout

Let's break down the details for creating the best layout in SteamWorld Build.

1. Planning for Citizen Needs:

  • Residential Zones: Different types of residents, like Engineers and Aristobots, need their own areas. Create designated zones for each resident type.
  • Avoid Unnecessary Buildings: Place buildings like the Casino where they are needed. For example, don't put it next to Workers who won't use it.

2. Efficient Use of Paths:

  • Dirt Paths vs. Maglev Roads: At the start, you have dirt paths with limited coverage. Upgrade to Maglev Roads by turning an Aristobot into a Scientist. These paths cover more area, making it easier to meet your citizens' needs.
  • Consider Paved Roads: If you haven't unlocked Maglev Roads, Paved Roads are a good alternative with medium service building coverage.

3. Organizing Mines:

  • Minerbots: Create separate sections for each type of Minerbot. This helps keep things organized and efficient.
  • Space for Workshops and Armories: Ensure there's enough space when building workshops and armories. It's crucial for later expansions.

4. Choosing the Right Map:

  • Giddy-Up Gorge: Optimize space by choosing maps with open areas. Giddy-Up Gorge is recommended for its abundance of open space and trees, which are essential for Foresters.
  • Consider Resource Demands: Different maps may have varying demands for resources. Ensure your chosen map aligns with the needs of your city.

These detailed steps will help you create a well-organized and efficient layout in SteamWorld Build. Keep these considerations in mind as you progress through the game for a thriving and happy city!

Steamworld Build Gameplay

SteamWorld Build is a game that mixes different types of fun. At first, players get to create and run a town on a faraway planet. They build roads, houses, and other important stuff for the people living there. Making sure everyone in the town is happy is key! As players move forward, they unlock new buildings and technologies and make their workers better at their jobs. The town grows based on how many folks live there.

But that's not all! Once players gather enough materials to fix their mining spot, the game unlocks a new part. Now, players not only have to run a working mine but also send miners into an old, spooky one. They're on the hunt for ancient tech that might help them escape the planet. While digging for resources, they also have to fight scary monsters. As the town gets bigger, more engineers come in, letting players hire more miners and make the mining even better.

Steamworld Build Development

A team of 40 people at The Station, which is part of Thunderful Development, is making SteamWorld Build. The big boss in charge is Brjánn Sigurgeirsson. This game stands out because it's the first SteamWorld game not made by the original team in Sweden. Before this, The Station worked on art and stuff for LittleBigPlanet games. They started making this game back in 2020.

The developers say this game is a bit like the Anno series and Dungeon Keeper series, but they made sure both city-building and dungeon exploring parts blend together. The story happens at the same time as SteamWorld Dig 2 and brings back familiar faces from earlier SteamWorld games.

Thunderful Development spilled the beans in May 2022, saying they were cooking up four different SteamWorld games, with one secretly named "Coffee." Then, in January 2023, they officially announced SteamWorld Build in their big SteamWorld Telegraph thing and even dropped a free demo on the same day. Finally, on December 1, 2023, the game hit the shelves for lots of different game systems.
