Super Mario RPG
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is a video game where you control Mario and his friends on a quest to stop the Smithy Gang. This game was made by Square and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1996. It's the last Mario game made for the SNES. The story is about the Smithy Gang crashing into Mario's world and spreading the seven star pieces of Star Road. In this game, Mario tries to defeat them and bring peace back.
Super Mario RPG is special because it's the first Mario game with role-playing elements, similar to games like Final Fantasy. The characters fight enemies using turn-based combat. Also, it's the first Mario game with gameplay in a 3D environment, adding new exploration and platforming like in the Super Mario series.
People loved Super Mario RPG for its humor and 3D graphics. It influenced other Nintendo RPG series like Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi, which kept some of its gameplay. The game was released on the Wii Virtual Console in 2008 and later on the Wii U's Virtual Console in 2015. It was also part of the Super NES Classic Edition in 2017. Now, there's a remake coming for the Nintendo Switch, set to release on November 17, 2023.

Super Mario RPG Gameplay
Super Mario RPG is a game made by Square that has some similarities with other Square games, like Final Fantasy, mixed with the story and gameplay style of Super Mario Bros. It follows the typical structure of Japanese Role-Playing Games (JRPGs), focusing on exploration and turn-based battles. The game has two main parts: adventuring and battles.
When not fighting monsters, the gameplay is like a 3D platformer where Mario moves in an isometric view. It includes classic Mario elements like hitting question blocks. Unlike some RPGs, there are no surprise battles; you can see enemies in the field, and a battle only starts if Mario touches one, letting you avoid unnecessary fights.
At the beginning, you control only Mario, but your party can grow to five characters. In battles, Mario and up to two others fight, and you can switch them while exploring. Each character has unique attacks; for instance, Princess Toadstool focuses on healing, while Geno and Bowser have powerful offensive moves. The combat is turn-based, and you choose actions like attack, defend, run, use items, or perform magic. There's also a special move called action command, involving timed button presses, which became a feature in later Mario RPGs.
Super Mario RPG Plot
One day, Mario goes to Bowser's castle to rescue Princess Toadstool. During their battle, a giant sword named Exor crashes into the castle, sending Mario, Princess Toadstool, and Bowser in different directions and scattering seven-star fragments. Mario, back at his place, meets Toad, who tells him to save Toadstool. Returning to Bowser's castle, Mario finds the bridge destroyed by Exor. He then discovers the Mushroom Kingdom overrun by the Smithy Gang. Mario helps a "tadpole" named Mallow retrieve a frog coin, and they team up to defeat gang boss Mack, finding a Star Piece.
Mallow, not really a tadpole, joins Mario on a quest. They meet Geno, a star spirit inside a wooden doll, and together they defeat Bowyer in Rose Town, recovering another Star Piece. Bowser, seeking Mario's help, joins the party. They rescue Princess Toadstool from Booster's tower, only to realize the wedding was a misunderstanding. Princess Toadstool, or Peach in disguise, joins the party. After gathering five more Star Pieces, they discover Valentina holding Nimbus Land's rulers captive. Mario, disguised as a statue, defeats Valentina and Dodo.
