Super Mario RPG

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is a really cool video game that came out in 1996 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). In this game, Mario and his friends team up to defeat the Smithy Gang, who messed up their world by spreading seven star pieces of Star Road.

What's extra special about this game is that it's the very first role-playing game (RPG) in the Mario series. It borrowed cool ideas from Square's RPG games like Final Fantasy. When you face bad guys in the game, it's all about taking turns with your team in battles, and the game mixes things up by letting you explore a 3D world, which was a new idea for Mario games back then.

People really liked Super Mario RPG because of its funny moments and awesome 3D graphics. It was such a big success that it inspired other cool RPG series by Nintendo, like Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi. Over the years, it made a comeback on different game consoles, such as the Wii and Wii U, and even had a special release with the Super NES Classic Edition.

Super Mario RPG Forest Maze Hidden Chests

The Forest Maze in Super Mario RPG is a special place with hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. There are six secret chests scattered throughout the maze, making up about 15% of all the hidden chests in the entire game. Once you know where to look, finding these treasures becomes easier.

  1. First hidden treasure chest at the forest entrance: Right as you enter the Forest Maze, look in the top left corner before heading deeper into the woods. Jump up to find a valuable Croaka Cola inside.

  2. Second hidden treasure chest after the first underground section: While navigating the maze, you'll go underground through tree stumps. After emerging from the underground for the first time, check to the left of the tree stump to discover a Frog Coin.

  3. Hidden underground chest in the right-most stump: After finding the second chest, you'll come across an area with several stumps leading to the underground. The right-most stump hides a chest near the middle of the room.

  4. Hidden underground empty chest in the middle-left stump: Similar to the previous one, you'll find this chest in the middle-left stump. However, be aware that this chest doesn't contain any prize.

  5. Hidden underground chest in the left-most stump: Look for a stump standing by itself above the other columns of stumps. The hidden chest is in the top-left corner of this area.

  6. New hidden treasure chest location after the forest maze: In the remake of the game, there's a different location for the last chest. After completing the maze and before the boss battle, you'll find a chest and a save point. This is different from the original game where the chest was before entering the "Lost Woods" section.

Knowing these locations can make your journey through the Forest Maze more rewarding in Super Mario RPG.

Super Mario RPG Gameplay

Super Mario RPG's gameplay is like a mix of traditional role-playing games (RPGs) and the classic Super Mario Bros. platform games. The game is divided into two main parts: exploring the game world and engaging in turn-based battles.

When you're not in a battle, the gameplay feels like an isometric 3D platformer, where you move Mario around and interact with the environment, like hitting question blocks. Unlike many RPGs, there are no surprise battles – you can see enemies on the screen, and a battle only happens if you touch one, letting you avoid unnecessary fights.

In battles, you start with Mario and eventually build a party of up to five characters. During battles, you control three characters, swapping them in and out as you explore. Each character has unique abilities; for example, Princess Toadstool can heal, while Geno and Bowser have powerful attacks.

The combat follows a turn-based system, where you choose actions like attacking or using items. What makes it interesting is the addition of action commands – timed button presses during attacks or special moves, adding a skill element to the battles. This gameplay style, including action commands, became a key feature in later Mario RPG games.
