Tekken 8 Gameplay
Tekken 8 promises an exciting gameplay experience with a focus on aggression, rewarding proactive players over defensive ones, as shared by director Katsuhiro Harada. The introduction of the "Heat" system adds a new layer to battles, offering chip damage, additional movesets, and altered properties for some characters. This system, with a timer, can be strategically utilized during fights. Notably, Tekken 8 brings back the Rage system but with changes, such as the separation of Rage Drive into "Heat Smash," a super move under the "Heat" system.
The game features a revamped juggle combo extender system called "Tornado" instead of the planned return of the "Screw" property. With a cinematic focus, Tekken 8 introduces stage destructions and realistic character reactions. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, it boasts all-new character models and voice lines. The online mode includes the "Arcade Quest" battle lobby, covering various battle environments and allowing avatar customization using "Fight Money" currency.
Tekken 8 Development
Tekken 8's development was officially revealed on September 13, 2022, during Sony's State of Play presentation, following a teaser at EVO 2022. It's scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Windows (Steam), and Xbox Series X/S. Continuing the narrative from Tekken 7, the focus lies on concluding the longstanding conflict between characters Kazuya and Jin. Arika, responsible for the game's continued development, was announced to handle aspects like rollback netcode. Bandai Namco conducted closed network tests in July and October 2023, allowing a limited number of players to assess game aspects like balance and matchmaking.
A demo released on December 14, 2023, for PlayStation 5 and December 21, 2023, for Xbox Series X/S and Windows, features Story Mode, Arcade Quest, Super Ghost Battle, Versus Mode, and Gallery, with four characters and three stages. Notably, Yohei Shimbori, a former Team Ninja member, joined Bandai Namco as co-producer and assistant manager.
