The Gift Ending Explained
The ambiguous conclusion of "The Gift" leaves the audience pondering the identity of Robyn's baby's father, as both men in question are deeply flawed. Simon, who ruined Gordo's childhood with a terrible lie, continues to manipulate and deceive throughout the plot. Meanwhile, Gordo suffered years of bullying and even attempted murder by his own father due to the fallout of Simon's deceit, leaving him with lifelong scars.
Gordo ultimately seeks revenge by turning Simon's life upside down and causing him to question his own actions. Simon's downfall is largely his own doing, as his mistreatment of Gordo led Robyn to discover his dark past. Additionally, Gordo was not even the initial cause of the events that led to Simon's downfall; he merely avenged his own past suffering. Ultimately, Simon's actions led to his own undoing, and the consequences of his deception continue to reverberate throughout the film.

The Gift Plot
In the movie "The Gift," Simon and Robyn Callem move to Los Angeles to start over after Robyn's miscarriage. They meet Simon's high school classmate, Gordo, who begins to visit them and bring them gifts. Simon becomes uncomfortable with Gordo's presence, but Robyn doesn't see a problem.
Gordo invites the Callems to his house, but Simon becomes suspicious when Gordo abruptly leaves them alone. The next day, Robyn discovers their dog is missing and their koi are dead. Simon goes to confront Gordo and discovers that he doesn't actually live there.
Robyn becomes increasingly paranoid, taking prescription pills and suspecting someone is in the house. Simon discovers her stolen pills and reveals that this was a problem for her in the past. Robyn sees Gordo watching her and discovers that Simon and his friend fabricated a story about Gordo being molested, leading to his father attempting to burn him alive. Simon denies responsibility, but Robyn confronts him and he apologizes to Gordo insincerely.
At Simon's promotion party, he is accused of ruining someone's career to get the promotion. Robyn goes into labor and gives birth to a boy. Simon is fired, and Robyn wants to separate. Simon receives a gift box with an audio recording of him and Robyn making fun of Gordo and footage of Gordo drugging Robyn. Gordo visits Robyn at the hospital and tells her that Simon caused his injuries. Simon breaks down as Gordo walks away, having gotten his revenge.
