The Midnight Club Ending Explained

The Midnight Club is a series about a group of terminally ill young adults who form The Midnight Club and meet each night in a hospice to tell each other scary stories. The main character, Ilonka, joins the club and discovers a diary that reveals details about a cult called the Paragon, which operated in the hospice building in the 1930s. She becomes intrigued by the Paragon and shares her findings with Shasta, a hippie who lives nearby and owns her own naturopathic company.

Shasta, who is spiritually inclined and has a Paragon tattoo on her wrist, teaches Ilonka about the five Greek goddesses or sisters of healing and encourages her to perform a ritual to save her roommate, Anya. However, the ritual fails, and Ilonka is devastated when she discovers that another patient, Sandra, is no longer terminally ill, and not her.

In the penultimate episode, Shasta encourages Ilonka and three other women to perform a ritual that she claims will cure Ilonka but is actually set up for her own benefit. Shasta is sick again and gives the women tea laced with poison. However, Ilonka, who is suspicious of Shasta, does not drink the tea and is interrupted by Dr. Stanton, who performs CPR on the other three poisoned women as Shasta tries to escape.

The season ends with Ilonka discovering that Shasta is actually Julia Jayne, the girl who left the hospice miraculously cured back in 1968. Shasta tells Ilonka that she can save her and offers to perform a ritual, leaving the audience wondering about Ilonka's fate and what Julia's true intentions are.
