The National

The National is a rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio, formed in New York City in 1999. The group includes Matt Berninger on vocals, Aaron and Bryce Dessner on guitars and keyboards, and Scott and Bryan Devendorf on bass and drums. Although not a band member, Carin Besser, Matt Berninger's wife, has co-written lyrics with him since 2007.

They released their debut album, "The National," in 2001 on Brassland Records. After Aaron's brother Bryce joined, they put out "Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers" in 2003. Signing with Beggars Banquet Records, they gained attention with "Alligator" in 2005, followed by "Boxer" in 2007 and "High Violet" in 2010, which boosted their popularity. "Trouble Will Find Me" in 2013 earned them Grammy nominations.

Their 2017 album, "Sleep Well Beast," won them a Grammy. In 2019, "I Am Easy to Find" was released. Their ninth album, "First Two Pages of Frankenstein," dropped in 2023, hitting No. 1 on Billboard's AAA & Rock charts. Five of their albums were nominated by music writer Laura Snapes for NME's 2013 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
