Who was Tom Leadon?
Tom Leadon, an American musician and founding member of Tom Petty's original band, Mudcrutch, passed away on March 22, 2023, at the age of 70. He was known for playing lead guitar in Mudcrutch and also played bass in Linda Ronstadt's band. Leadon's brother Bernie was a former banjoist and guitarist of the Eagles. After leaving Mudcrutch in 1972, Leadon moved to Los Angeles and later became a guitar teacher in Nashville. Mudcrutch reformed in 2007, and Leadon continued to play with the band until its operations ended after Petty's death in 2017. Petty credited Leadon with inspiring him to pursue a music career in L.A.

His Death was natural according to a statement, “It is with great sadness, but profound love and gratitude for his life, that the family of Tom Leadon (Thomas Joseph Leadon) of Nashville, Tenn., and Gainesville, Fla., announce his passing on March 22, 2023 peacefully of natural causes. He was 70". Tom Petty was part of the band called Mudcrutch band in which Tom Leadon was the lead guitarist until he died in 2016 Tom was the Lead guitarist of band he took time out of the band after a fight with petty and went to teach Music in Nashville until he joined the band in 2007 and then the band was active till Tom Petty’s death in 2017. His family confirmed his peaceful passing due to natural causes. Leadon's music career began in high school when he played lead guitar in the Epics alongside Tom Petty. The duo then formed Mudcrutch, where Leadon played guitar and later left the band in 1972 following a fight with Petty. He went on to play bass in Linda Ronstadt's band and joined Silver. Leadon also co-wrote the Eagles' "Hollywood Waltz" in 1975 with his brother Bernie, Glenn Frey, and Don Henley. In 2007, Mudcrutch reunited with Leadon, Randall Marsh, Mike Campbell, and Benmont Tench to record two successful albums. Petty's daughter, Adria, expressed her condolences and shared that Leadon was an excellent musician and a dear friend to her father and the band.
