On May 27, 2023, a tragic motorcycle accident claimed the life of Tyler Ford, a 29-year-old resident of New Jersey. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Route 130 in Hamilton Township. Ford was riding his motorcycle in a northbound direction when he collided with a car that was making a left turn onto a side street.
The impact resulted in Ford being ejected from his motorcycle, and sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car involved did not sustain any injuries. Sgt. Philip Curry, the spokesperson for the State Police, has provided further details regarding the tragic accident involving Tyler Ford. The incident occurred at approximately 10:17 p.m. on the outer carriageway of the northbound side of the turnpike, near milepost 78.8. According to the preliminary investigation, a Mitsubishi Outlander traveling south near milepost 78.7 lost control while trying to avoid debris on the road.
This initial vehicle collided with another vehicle, becoming partially immobilized in the left lane and left shoulder. A Toyota then struck the Mitsubishi, also becoming partially incapacitated in the middle and left lanes. Following this collision, a BMW X3 collided head-on with the Toyota. At this point, a BMW 330i approached the scene and came to a halt in the left lane upon encountering the three disabled vehicles.
It was during this sequence of events that Tyler Ford, riding a motorcycle in close proximity to the BMW 330i, was involved in the collision. A Suzuki GSX-R600, traveling alongside Ford, collided with the left side of the BMW 330i and the right side of the Mitsubishi, causing damage.
Tragically, Ford was ejected from his motorcycle during the impact and sustained fatal injuries. Fortunately, there were no reports of any additional injuries at the scene. The closure of the left and center lanes of the southbound outer roadway for nearly three hours resulted in minimal traffic congestion in the surrounding area. Sgt. Curry confirmed that the investigation into the collision is still ongoing, as authorities work diligently to gather all pertinent information.
