What happened to Joy in House of Anubis?
Joy Mercer is a central character featured in the House of Anubis series. She is known for her close friendship with Patricia Williamson, but her sudden and unexplained disappearance at the start of the show leaves her peers bewildered. It turns out that the Secret Society has taken Joy into hiding because they believe she is The Chosen One, a descendant of Amneris who is destined to assemble the Cup of Ankh.
However, it is revealed later that Joy is not actually The Chosen One, and it was Nina Martin who held that title. Joy's character is portrayed as someone who is interested in romantic comedies and Robert Pattinson. Trudy refers to her as a "walking soap opera," while Mrs. Andrews describes her as a "very popular girl."
Joy hails from a wealthy family, and she typically spends her breaks in London with her father. She shares a friendly rapport with most of the Anubis House members and teaching staff. On the day Nina arrives at the house, Joy goes missing under mysterious circumstances, and the faculty claims that her family has taken her out for "personal matters."
Why did Joy leave House of Anubis?
As the third season of the series progresses, Joy and Fabian's partnership flourishes after Nina's departure from the school, leading to a strong bond between the two. Joy takes the initiative and opens up to Fabian about her romantic feelings, but unfortunately, her advances are rejected, which results in her resigning from Sibuna.
She then spends more time with Mara Jaffray, with whom she builds a strong friendship. Joy's departure from Sibuna leads her to embark on a journey of self-discovery, and eventually, she becomes more comfortable in her skin. This transformation reveals a more self-assured and sarcastic aspect of Joy's personality, as she lets her confidence shine through in the third season.

Joy disappeared mysteriously on the day Nina arrived at Anubis House, and she was erased from the school's memory by the Secret Society. Joy managed to escape and sent Patricia a hidden message to meet her outside of the school grounds, where she revealed that her father's work had endangered her and that she was forced to leave the school. Joy was not seen again until House of Rendezvous / House of Rescue when she appeared via video chat with her friends.
In the season finale, Joy attempted to escape again but was caught by Victor, Mr. Sweet, Mrs. Andrews, and her father, who forced her to start the ritual to put the Cup of Ankh back together. It was revealed that Joy was not the Chosen One, and she informed Nina of the say once to complete the Cup of Ankh in the cellar.
