Why Did Lucas Leave NCT?

Lucas's departure from NCT comes after a two-year hiatus from the band and the public eye, following a cheating scandal in 2021. A South Korean woman accused him of gaslighting, and a Chinese woman came forward with similar allegations, claiming that Lucas had been unfaithful to both of them.

In the wake of the scandal, Lucas's label SM Entertainment released a statement taking responsibility for the poor management of the artist and acknowledging the pain and disappointment caused by Lucas's behavior.

NCT

NCT is a South Korean boy band under the management of SM Entertainment, which stands for Neo Culture Technology. They debuted in January 2016 and currently consist of 22 members divided into five sub-units: NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, WayV, and NCT DoJaeJung.

The group is known for its versatility in music, vocal and rap abilities, and dynamic performances, and they have been described as K-pop's most innovative boy band due to their limitless member concept.

As of January 2023, NCT has sold more than 27 million albums across all sub-units, making them the top-selling act under SM Entertainment and one of the best-selling K-pop artists ever.

NCT's first sub-unit, the rotational NCT U, debuted on April 9, 2016, with the double digital single "The 7th Sense" and "Without You". This was followed by the Seoul-based sub-unit NCT 127 on July 7, 2016, with their self-titled extended play, and the teenaged sub-unit NCT Dream on August 24, 2016, with the digital single "Chewing Gum".

WayV, NCT's first overseas sub-unit with seven members based in China, debuted on January 17, 2019, with the single album The Vision. On April 17, 2023, a new fixed sub-unit featuring members Doyoung, Jaehyun, and Jungwoo, debuted as NCT DoJaeJung with the extended play (EP) Perfume. NCT's next overseas sub-unit, tentatively named NCT Tokyo, is set to debut in the third quarter of 2023 as their final overseas sub-unit.

Even though each sub-unit promotes individually, NCT has come together three times to record three full-length albums: Empathy (2018), Resonance (2020), and Universe (2021).

Resonance sold over 2.6 million copies across its two parts within two months of release, making it the top-selling physical album by an act from SM Entertainment at the time and earning the group their first Daesang (Grand Prize) Award at the 2020 Asia Artist Awards.

Universe, which was released in December 2021, became their most pre-ordered album with 1.7 million copies and later surpassed 1.8 million sales after its release.
