What Happened To The Girl In The Basement?

Elisabeth Fritzl is an Austrian woman born in 1966 to Rosemarie and Josef Fritzl. Elisabeth Fritzl spent 24 years in captivity, confined to a makeshift cellar and repeatedly tortured by her father, Josef Fritzl. On August 28, 1984, Josef Fritzl called his18 year old daughter Elisabeth into the Basement of the family's house in Austria. He was re-fitting a door to the recently renovated cellar and must help carry it. But he deceived her and knocked her unconscious with an ether-soaked towel. Her father lied to her mother and the police and told them she was a runaway and had joined cult. During her hard time in the Basement, Fritzl assaulted and sexually abused Elisabeth. She gave birth to seven children from numerous instances of rape, one of whom died shortly after birth. Three of her children were carried up by Fritzl and Elisabeth's mother. However, Elisabeth got her freedom on April 26, 2008, aged 42. She escaped from the Basement after one of her children fell unconscious, and Josef agreed to get her medical care.

According to the source Meaww, she and her children were immediately shifted to state care and then to a village in Northern Austria, where they began therapy. She reportedly lives with her kids in a bright and well-lit home. Her children are now ages of between 17 and 35. Two of the six children encountered massive anxiety and panic attacks and had more difficulty healing. On the road to healing, they were kept on mood-altering drugs, exercise, and diet plans owing to their former lifestyle.
