What Happened to the Guardians in Tears of the Kingdom?

Players of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be relieved to know that the menacing Guardians from the previous game, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, are absent in the sequel.

However, players will still come across the ruins of Guardians scattered throughout Hyrule, such as in Hateno Village, where the top half of one is built into the roof of the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab.

Interestingly, mechanical tentacles resembling those of Guardians appear when Link is launched out of a Skyview Tower, but it's unclear if they are repurposed remains of Guardians.

In place of Guardians, hostile Zonai Constructs serve as robotic opponents to Link in the game, appearing in floating island archipelagos and various Zonai Shrines. Fortunately, they are not as dangerous as the Guardians from the previous game.

How Many Shrines are in 'Tears of the Kingdom'?

Zelda Breath of the Wild is a game that features a vast open world, filled with numerous shrines for players to explore and conquer. In total, there are 152 shrines for players to discover, each of which has at least one chest to be found.

Although collecting the chests is not required to finish the shrine, players can go back to the shrine at a later time if they want to retrieve any chests they may have missed. The game's map serves as a helpful tool, showing players which shrines they have completed and whether or not they have collected the chest within. Upon completing a shrine, players are awarded a Light of Blessing.

By collecting four of these, players can increase their character's health and stamina, providing them with an advantage as they navigate the game's expansive world.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an action-adventure game released by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch in 2023. It serves as a sequel to the 2017 game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The game features an expanded open-world environment, with more opportunities for vertical exploration. The player takes on the role of Link, who teams up with Princess Zelda to stop Ganondorf from destroying Hyrule.

Tears of the Kingdom began development after ideas for downloadable content for Breath of the Wild became too large in scope. The game was developed by Nintendo's Entertainment Planning & Development (EPD) division, with the director and producer of Breath of the Wild, Hidemaro Fujibayashi and Eiji Aonuma, respectively, leading the team.

The game was first teased at E3 2019 and fully revealed at E3 2021. Initially scheduled for a 2022 release, the game was delayed until May 2023. The game has received critical acclaim for its enhancements, open-world design, and emphasis on exploration and experimentation.
