Who is John Walker Lindh?
John Philip Walker Lindh was born on February 9, 1981. John is an American convicted criminal who was captured as an enemy warrior during the United States invasion in November 2001 of Afghanistan. He was imprisoned at the Qala-i-Jangi fortress. He rejected participating in a violent uprising of the Taliban prisoners, and in the Battle of Qala-i-Jangi, stating that he was injured in the leg and hid in the cellar of the Pink House, in the southern half of the fort. He was one of 86 of the 400 prisoners to survive the uprising, in which CIA officer Johnny Mike Spann was killed.

A Virginia man Ali Shukri Amin, 2015 who pleaded guilty to providing support to ISIS, is charged with violating his departure conditions after allegedly meeting numerous times with John Walker Lindh, the so-called American Taliban who served in prison for 17 years providing services to the group.
According to court records, the FBI photographed Amin in 2021 holding several conversations with Lindh, a violation of Amin's departure condition that he did not express with any known extremists.
In 2019 Lindh, who was released, was also on supervised release and subject to the same circumstances as Amin at the time of the alleged meetings, but has not been accused of breaking those terms.

The first American to face major terrorism was John Lindh's charges after the Sept. 11 attacks. He was condemned for supplying services to the Taliban after he got captured in Afghanistan in the weeks after the 9-11 attacks battling with Taliban forces against the U.S.-supported Northern Alliance.
In prison, He was convicted to 20 years as part of a plea deal and in 2019, was released after serving about 85% of his sentence from custody, with the rest concentrated on good behavior.
He was released shortly before a judge assessed additional restrictions on his three-year period of supervision after release, in addition to the earliest conditions that contained the ban on meeting with known extremists.
