Dog the Bounty Hunter, a well-known celebrity bounty hunter, believes that the 23-year-old sought assistance from his parents because of their suspicious behavior during the entire investigation.

Detectives have also expressed their belief that Brian and his parents communicated through coded language in their written correspondence.

Brian's parents, Chris and Roberta Laundrie, received a visit from two police detectives on October 21, 2021, after which they went to Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park to assist law enforcement in the search for their son.

Several of Brian's possessions were discovered in the park close to where "skeletal remains" were identified. Following the discovery of his remains, Chris and Roberta Laundrie were observed returning home with a bag that detectives claim was created by their son and adorned with his artwork.

Earlier, the attorney representing the Laundrie family, Steve Bertolino, disclosed that Brian appeared to be visibly disturbed when he departed from his parents' residence for the final time.

In an interview with NBC, he stated that Brian was extremely distressed upon leaving, and Chris Laundrie expressed regret to him multiple times for allowing him to go, despite being unable to prevent it.

During a later interview with TMZ, the attorney declined to provide a reason for why the 23-year-old chose to depart, but confirmed that he was experiencing distress at the time.

Steve went on to explain, "He was just not behaving like himself. As Roberta Laundrie mentioned, one cannot fully understand what someone is thinking internally. They're now reflecting on his demeanor that day and attempting to comprehend it."

The FBI announced on October 21, 2021, that human remains discovered at T. Malbry Carlton, Jr. Memorial Reserve and Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park were identified as belonging to Brian.

During a search of Myakkahatchee park the day before, authorities discovered the remains near a backpack and notebook suspected to belong to Brian.

The area where the remains were discovered was previously submerged underwater, and a medical examiner and cadaver dogs were dispatched to assist with the investigation.

Initially, it was reported that only skeletal remains had been discovered, but subsequent examination of dental records confirmed that the human remains belonged to Brian.

According to an autopsy report from the Sarasota Medical Examiner's office, Brian died from a gunshot wound to the head, which was determined to be the result of a murder-suicide.

Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue announced on October 12, 2021, that Gabby Petito's death was a homicide, and her autopsy report revealed that she died of strangulation.

Following the release of the autopsy results, the Laundrie family's attorney issued a statement expressing sympathy for Gabby's tragic death.

Bertolino stated that "While Brian Laundrie has been charged with unauthorized use of a debit card belonging to Gabby, he is only considered a person of interest in connection with Gabby Petito's death."

On September 23, 2021, the FBI issued a warrant for Brian's arrest on charges of using unauthorized debit cards following Gabby Petito's death.

During that time, Brian was only considered a "person of interest" in the case, as law enforcement continued their investigation.

It was not until October 21, 2021, that Brian was identified as a "person of interest" in her murder.
