Kelly is a well-known television presenter and journalist with a cheerful personality. She was born in Glasgow and grew up in Bridgeton and East Kilbride, where she attended Claremont High School. Kelly started her career as a trainee reporter for the East Kilbride News in 1982, then worked as a researcher for BBC Scotland before joining TV-AM as a reporter. By 1988, she was a presenter on the Good Morning Britain breakfast show. When TV-AM lost its morning TV franchise in 1992, Kelly joined its successor company, GMTV, as an anchor.
