Fleetwood Mac Wiki

Formed in London in 1967, Fleetwood Mac is a rock band with both British and American roots. Originally founded by guitarists and vocalists Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer, along with drummer Mick Fleetwood, they hired Bob Brunning as a temporary bassist before John McVie joined the band in time for their debut album. In 1968, Danny Kirwan was added as a third guitarist and vocalist. Keyboardist and vocalist Christine Perfect, who had contributed as a session musician for their second album while she was part of Chicken Shack, later became a full-time member after marrying John McVie, and became known as Christine McVie.Initially a British blues band, Fleetwood Mac achieved a UK number one hit with "Albatross" and followed it up with other successful singles such as "Oh Well," "Man of the World," and "The Green Manalishi." Green, Spencer, and Kirwan left the band one after another in the early 1970s and were replaced by Bob Welch, Bob Weston, and Dave Walker on guitar and vocals. However, by 1974, all three had departed or been dismissed, leaving the band without a male vocalist or guitarist.

While scouting studios in Los Angeles, Fleetwood heard Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, an American folk-rock duo, and asked Buckingham to become their new guitarist and vocalist. Buckingham agreed on the condition that Nicks could also join as a vocalist. After the departure of some members, Fleetwood Mac gained a more pop rock sound with the addition of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, leading to the success of their album Fleetwood Mac in 1975, which reached No. 1 in the United States. Their 1977 album Rumours produced four U.S. Top 10 singles and won a Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1978. Despite personal breakups among the members, the band continued to write and record together. The lineup remained stable through three more studio albums, but began to disintegrate in the late 1980s. However, a full reunion occurred in 1997 with the release of their fourth U.S. No. 1 album, The Dance, which marked the 20th anniversary of Rumours. After various lineup changes, Christine McVie rejoined in 2014. In 2018, Buckingham was fired and replaced by Mike Campbell and Neil Finn. Fleetwood Mac has sold more than 120 million records worldwide, and have received various awards and honors, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the MusiCares Person of the Year award.

Why did Fleetwood Mac Break up?

According to sources, Lindsey's departure from the band was hastened by Stevie Nicks, his former partner and bandmate, who had ended their relationship in the 1970s to be with Mick Fleetwood, the band's drummer. Despite reuniting after a decade-long separation, there was still unresolved animosity between them.
