Check Your Bluetooth is on 

For your Apple Pencil to function, it requires a Bluetooth connection. Therefore, if Bluetooth is turned off on your iPad, you will be unable to use it for taking notes or drawing. Here's a guide to help you verify if Bluetooth is turned on:

  • To verify whether your Pencil is connected or not, you can tap and hold the Bluetooth logo to open the connectivity widget, and then repeat the action to view the list of currently connected devices.
  • To check the status of Bluetooth, navigate to the Settings app and locate the "On" option, which should be near the top of the list. If it is not enabled, tap the corresponding heading and slide the toggle to the green position. After doing so, your Apple Pencil should appear in the list below, indicating that it is currently connected.

Make Sure It's Charged

To monitor your Apple Pencil's battery level, there are two ways you can do it. One is by using a battery widget, which provides an overview of your Apple Pencil and other devices' batteries. To access this widget, press and hold your home screen until you enter "jiggle mode" and then tap the Plus button in the top left corner. From the widget menu, select Batteries and choose a widget size by swiping left and right. After that, place the widget on your home screen by dragging it or pressing the Add Widget button.

The second way is only available for Apple Pencil 2 users. You can simply attach the Pencil to your iPad through its magnetic connection. This will cause a battery indicator to appear at the top of the screen, regardless of how you hold it. If your Pencil's battery is running low, you can charge it by connecting it to your iPad. For a first-gen Pencil, remove the cap to reveal the Lightning connector and plug it into your iPad. Alternatively, you can use the Lightning to Lightning adapter included in the Apple Pencil box to charge the Pencil using a regular Lightning cable.
