World of Warcraft Classic: Season of Discovery

World of Warcraft Classic: Season of Discovery, also known as SOD, is the second seasonal launch in the World of Warcraft: Classic series. It's tailored to offer experienced players a fresh experience by introducing new elements and expanding the game's meta. This season brings in additional class options, such as warlock and shaman tanks, providing players with exciting new ways to approach the game.

Launching on November 30, 2023, Season of Discovery focuses on maintaining a sense of exploration and surprise. Unlike some other updates, there won't be a PTR (Public Test Realm) for this season. This decision aims to preserve the thrill of discovery, ensuring that players encounter new content and features directly in the live game environment.

At the beginning of the season, the level cap will be set at 25, offering players a new starting point for their adventures. Blackfathom Deeps, a dungeon, will be transformed into a 10-player raid experience at this level. Alongside this, entirely new items like the Fathomblade and Shoulderguards of Crushing Depths will become available, adding fresh gear for players to obtain and utilize.

Excitingly, Season of Discovery hints at the possible introduction of zones previously unreleased in the original game. The Emerald Dream and Azshara Crater might be among these new areas, presenting players with unexplored territories to delve into and conquer. To manage the gameplay experience, the use of layering is planned for this season.

WOW Season of Discovery Tank Tier List

In the World of Warcraft's Season of Discovery, there's a list that ranks tanks called the Tank Tier List. This list helps players understand which classes and specializations are strong in tanking. It's important because the Season of Discovery changes how the game works, so different classes have new opportunities to become great tanks. Some classes that didn't traditionally tank now have a chance to do so, thanks to new powers from the Rune Engraving system. Classes like Shamans, Warlocks, and Rogues can step into tanking roles for the first time.

This list looks at things like how well a class generates threat (which means getting the enemy's attention) in both single-target situations and when dealing with lots of enemies (called AoE, or Area of Effect). It also considers how well they can survive tough situations. This list ranks classes compared to each other and shows how they might perform in the new level 25 raids and dungeons.

Season of Discovery Tank Character Explained

In the Season of Discovery, tanks are categorized into different tiers based on their strengths and abilities.

Druid (S-Tier)

The top tier, the S-tier, is occupied by Druids, known for their exceptional survivability. They've been further empowered with the Survival of the Fittest Rune, reducing incoming damage by significant percentages, especially in Bear Form. Their Lacerate ability also boosts threat generation, making them a potent tanking option overall.

Warrior (A-Tier)

Warriors, positioned in the A-tier, historically strong tanks, receive enhancements addressing their weaker threat generation. The Furious Thunder Leg Rune notably augments threat by 50%, while Victory Rush in the Gloves slot provides instant healing. They boast various damage buff Runes for specific encounters, maintaining their competitive stance among tanks.

Paladin (A-Tier)

Paladins, also in the A-tier, engage in the eternal Prot Paladin vs. Prot Warrior debate. With buffs like the Aegis Rune, amplifying Block value, and Divine Sacrifice offering emergency party damage redirection, they stand strong. Hand of Reckoning and Crusader Strike contribute to their threat generation, making them formidable tanks.

Warlocks and Shamans (B-Tier)

Warlocks and Shamans, newcomers to tanking, reside in the B-tier due to early limitations in Rune Engravings. Warlocks, the stronger B-tier choice, benefit from Metamorphosis, enhancing armor, threat generation, and mana gained from abilities. Shamans, though needing later phases to realize their potential, showcase promise with the Way of Earth Rune and utility through totems and new Runes.

Rogue (C-Tier)

Rogues, in the C-tier, possess tanking capabilities but face complexity and comparatively lower rewards. Evasion and abilities like Sinister Strike aid in reducing damage, yet maintaining rotations, especially with Blade Dance for damage reduction, proves intricate. Despite skills like Just A Flesh Wound and Main Gauche, they require meticulous management for less payoff compared to other tanks.

World of Warcraft Classic

World of Warcraft Classic is a special version of the famous MMORPG game created by Blizzard Entertainment. It's like a time machine, taking players back to experience the game in its original form, just like it was before any expansions were added. This means it captures the game exactly as it was before The Burning Crusade expansion was released.

Announced in 2017 and globally released on August 26, 2019, World of Warcraft Classic runs alongside the main version of the game, providing players a chance to relive the early days of WoW. It's a nostalgic journey for both new and veteran players, offering the original gameplay, quests, and world that made WoW so beloved when it first came out.

In this version, players can explore Azeroth as it was initially designed, without the changes or enhancements introduced in later expansions. This means experiencing the original zones, dungeons, and challenges, just as they were back when the game launched.
