WWE 2K23 is a sports video game centered on professional wrestling, released in 2023. It was developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K Sports. It is the latest addition to the long-running video game series based on WWE, the tenth game under the WWE 2K title, and the sequel to WWE 2K22. Available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, the game was launched on March 17, 2023.

WWE 2K23 - Patch 1.04 - 3/23/23

The latest patch for WWE 2K23 is now live and includes the below updates:

• Addressed reported concerns of a crash that may occur within Create-A-Superstar when customizing for an extended period of time
• Addressed reported concerns regarding memory-related crashes that may occur on PlayStation 5 and PC
• Addressed reported exploits within MyFACTION
• Addressed a reported issue in MyRISE where players would be sent back to the main menu instead of continuing a storyline

WWE 2K23 PATCH 1.03 - 3/16/23

Head to the ring with the 1.03 patch update for WWE 2K23 which includes:

• Polish and stability fixes for launch day.
• Improvements to CAS part compatibility.
• Improvements made to Superstars interacting with objects lying on the ground.

WWE 2K23 Gameplay

Similar to its predecessor, WWE 2K23 employs a combination of arcade and simulation gameplay.

• This installment introduces the WarGames mode to the WWE 2K franchise and also enables up to eight players to engage in online multiplayer for the Royal Rumble match.
• Returning game modes, including MyFACTION, MyGM, Showcase, Universe, career mode, and the full creation suite, come with new features.
• The Showcase mode puts the spotlight on John Cena as the cover star, allowing players to recreate significant moments from Cena's career.
• Additionally, MyRISE has two separate storylines: "The Lock" for male-created superstars and "The Legacy" for female-created superstars.

WWE 2K23 Release 

John Cena has been announced as the cover star for WWE 2K23, which was officially revealed on January 23, 2023. Those who pre-order the game or purchase the Deluxe or Icon editions will have access to the playable character Bad Bunny. Additionally, behind-the-scenes footage of Cody Rhodes being scanned was released by 2K Games on January 30, marking his return to the game series since WWE 2K15.

The Deluxe Edition includes a season pass for future downloadable content, MyFACTION bonuses, and three days of early access starting on March 14. The Icon Edition includes all Deluxe Edition content, as well as the "Ruthless Aggression Pack," which features classic versions of John Cena,  Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, and Batista, the WrestleMania 22 arena, additional MyFACTION bonuses, and the John Cena Legacy Championship.

On March 6, 2023, it was announced that five content packs containing 24 playable characters will be released from April to August, featuring superstars from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and Legends such as Bray Wyatt, Wade Barrett, Eve Torres, Zeus, Harley Race, the Steiner Brothers, Pretty Deadly, and Hit Row, among others.

WWE 2K23 Critical Reception

According to Dale Driver's preview on IGN, WWE 2K23 maintains the impressive grappling gameplay established by its predecessor, WWE 2K22, which he considers to be the series' peak. While noting some minor enhancements, he observed that the game largely feels similar to the previous installment. Metacritic, an online review aggregator, reports that WWE 2K23 has received "generally favorable reviews."

While WWE 2K23 is mostly an incremental addition rather than a groundbreaking one, it is still satisfactory, considering the major overhaul the series received last year still had room for improvement. This year, much of the enhancement has been made in the game modes rather than the gameplay, but that doesn't mean there have been no improvements in terms of gameplay. However, there have been some areas where the game has deteriorated significantly compared to last year.
