Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a 2022 action role-playing game created by Monolith Soft and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It belongs to the open-world Xenoblade Chronicles series, which is part of the broader Xeno franchise. This installment continues the narrative of the Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy, depicting the futures of the worlds showcased in Xenoblade Chronicles (2010) and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (2017).

Developed as a story-driven game, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 combines elements from the first two entries in the series, incorporating content and combat from previous Xeno titles. The game unfolds in the world of Aionios, where two nations, Keves and Agnus, are in a perpetual war fought by soldiers with ten-year lifespans. The main characters, Noah, Eunie, Lanz, Mio, Sena, and Taion, gain the power of Ouroboros and collaborate to find safety.

Their journey reveals the mystery behind the ongoing war and unveils the true nature of their world. By March 2023, the game had sold 1.86 million copies. An expansion titled "Future Redeemed," set before the events of the main game, was released in April 2023, further expanding the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 experience.

Improvements in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Version 2.2.0

In the latest update to Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Version 2.2.0 brings along several notable improvements. One significant addition is the compatibility with the "Noah" and "Mio" amiibo figures. Now, players can scan these amiibos in the "System" > "amiibo" section of the Menu Screen to unlock special clothing items for the characters. For Noah, the "N’s Consul Suit" outfit is available, with variations that exclude Noah, Lanz, or Euni’s jacket. Similarly, the Mio amiibo unlocks the "M’s Consul Suit" outfit, along with variations excluding Mio, Sena, or Taion’s jacket.

Moreover, players have the option to earn these special rewards without the amiibos. By fulfilling specific in-game conditions and talking to the NPC Miibomii at Llyn Nyddwr Camp in the Fornis region, players can receive rewards identical to those obtained through the Noah or Mio amiibo. These additions enhance the gaming experience, providing players with more ways to customize their characters and progress in the game.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Gameplay

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 provides an engaging gameplay experience as an action role-playing game on the Nintendo Switch. Set in a vast open world called Aionios, players can explore the largest map in the Xenoblade Chronicles series to date. The game introduces a departure from its predecessors by allowing up to seven party members in battles, including a special "Hero" character. With a roster of 19 Heroes available in the base game and an additional four introduced in the DLC, each character brings unique skills and abilities that can be acquired through story events or sidequests.

Players also have the freedom to switch between character classes, unlocking different abilities by enhancing a Hero's affinity with the party. The game's day-and-night cycle influences in-game events, and players can use a fast travel option and navigation system for efficient exploration.

Combat in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 utilizes an action-based battle system where players control the lead character in real-time. A departure from past entries, players can swap between characters during combat. The introduction of the Interlink system adds a strategic element, allowing specific character pairs to fuse into powerful Ouroboros forms, governed by a Heat Gauge. The game also retains the familiar "Chain Attack" mechanic, enabling players to chain multiple attacks for increased damage.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Development

The creation of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 began with the inception of ideas during the development of the second game in the trilogy, Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Tetsuya Takahashi, the series creator, drew inspiration from the iconic Mechonis sword featured in Xenoblade Chronicles and the Titan of Uraya from Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

The concept of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 emerged as a result of bringing these two worlds together, symbolized by the broken Mechonis sword piercing the wounded Titan of Uraya, representing a war between the two realms. Takahashi presented this innovative concept to Nintendo in May 2018, and the initial development by Monolith Soft's first production group, renowned for their work on the Xenoblade Chronicles series, commenced in August 2018 following the completion of Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country.
