Yakuza Kiwami Wiki

Yakuza Kiwami is an action-adventure video game developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega. Each installment features a crime drama storyline inspired by yakuza films and pre-2000 Japanese crime dramas, and the main character is typically Kazuma Kiryu, a former member of the Tojo Clan.

Kiryu works with the Tojo Clan leaders to stop conspiracies against them, but the series' central theme is his desire to leave the yakuza and start over by raising orphans and assimilating into civilian life. In the open-world gameplay, players fight against thugs, complete missions, and engage in activities such as mini-games, crafting items, and visiting clubs and restaurants. As of 2021, Sega reported that the series had sold 19.8 million units, and the series has expanded to other media, including film adaptations, due to its popularity in Japan.

Yakuza Kiwami Walkthrough

This walkthrough applies to all versions of the game, regardless of the platform you're using. The story walkthrough focuses on directing you where to go and what to do, rather than divulging plot details. For those new to the Yakuza franchise, I suggest playing Yakuza 0 first to become familiar with the game's many minigames, gain a better understanding of the story, and have a more enjoyable overall experience.

Playing the games chronologically (Yakuza 0 - Yakuza Kiwami - Yakuza Kiwami 2 - Yakuza 3 Remastered - Yakuza 4 Remastered - Yakuza 5 Remastered - Yakuza 6) will enhance your comprehension of the narrative. All achievements and content in the game are accessible, so you can complete the story before moving on to other activities.

Fighting is straightforward, with easy-to-remember combos, but the Climax Battles can be challenging, so it's best to review them on YouTube before attempting them. From the beginning of the game, you'll become familiar with the numerous minigames the Yakuza series is known for. Some of them can be quite challenging, such as Mahjong, Catfight, and Batting, while others are more enjoyable, such as Karaoke, Disco, and Clubs.

Yakuza 0 has a plethora of entertaining substories, along with many unforgettable moments and memes. The protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu, is the youngest and most naive in this game, which may make it easier for new players to get attached to the franchise. Playing Yakuza 0 as your first game in the series will provide you with a better understanding of the story.

Although it was released after the other games, it serves as a prequel and was designed by the developers to enhance players' understanding of the series. To fully appreciate the story, it's recommended to play the games in chronological order: Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2, Yakuza 3 Remastered, Yakuza 4 Remastered, Yakuza 5 Remastered, and Yakuza 6.

There is no missable content in Yakuza 0, so you can complete the story first without worrying about missing anything important. After finishing the game, a new mode called "Premium Adventure" is unlocked, allowing you to free-roam and complete any remaining tasks on your completion list. To achieve a faster completion, it's recommended to complete the minigames in the order they are listed after the story walkthrough.

The game requires two playthroughs, with the first one in any difficulty you prefer. It's suggested to play on HARD, as the difficulty is well-balanced in the Yakuza series, and enemies are challenging yet fair. Legendary difficulty is unlocked after completing the story for the first time, but it's best to aim for 100% completion before attempting a second playthrough for the last achievement.

Fighting in Yakuza 0 is relatively straightforward, with easy-to-remember combos that are often explained as you progress through the game. The most challenging aspect of completing the game's content is the Climax Battles, which are still difficult even though they're not as challenging as in Yakuza 0. It's recommended to watch them on YouTube before attempting them to avoid being overwhelmed, especially at the beginning.

Yakuza Kiwami Gameplay

The Yakuza series, including the latest installment Yakuza: Like a Dragon, features a combination of combat, story, and exploration. The player character randomly encounters enemies on their path, triggering combat where they use hand-to-hand combat, combos, grabs, throws, and finishing moves. Weapons can also be obtained and used, with some characters having specialized fighting styles centered around their trademark weapons.

Winning battles rewards the player with money or items that can be used to purchase equipment or play mini-games. The games also include sub-stories, which side missions that complement the main story and give the player extra experience. There are a large number of mini-games that range from activities like bowling and arcade games to more complex ones like professions and cabaret club management.

The games also feature a recurring superboss named Amon, who appears in most of the titles. The seventh installment introduced a new turn-based battle system where the player character recruits party members to fight alongside them in RPG battles against enemies and to play mini-games. Sega has confirmed that future titles will continue to use turn-based gameplay, while the Judgment series will retain the action gameplay of earlier titles.
