Yizo Yizo, a South African television drama series, graced the screens of SABC 1 from 1999 to 2004. It is set in the fictional Supatsela High School, located in a township of Johannesburg. The series opens with the exit of the school's tyrannical principal, Mr. Mthembu, who was removed for beating a student. His successor, Ken Mokoena, is portrayed as weak and corrupt, which allows gangs to take over the school. The show's primary goal was to provide positive role models and showcase the process of restoring an average urban school in a South African township. To achieve this, the Department collaborated with the education division of the South African Broadcasting Corporation to develop storylines, and eventually contracted Laduma Film Factory, later renamed Bomb Productions, to produce the series.
