Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Limited (HCSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited, invites applications from Indian citizens for the position of Fire Inspector on a contract basis.
Education Qualification
Essential Qualifications:
- SSLC pass
- Successfully completed Sub Officers Course from the National Fire Service College, Nagpur, or an equivalent course from Armed Forces, State Fire Force, or a central PSU.
Essential Experience:
- Minimum four years of industry experience in firefighting and allied operations, or
- Minimum four years of firefighting service with the Armed Forces or Central Armed Police Forces.
Desirable:
- Working knowledge of Hindi or Bengali.
Job Requirements:
- Conduct daily/weekly maintenance and monthly checks of first aid firefighting appliances.
- Monthly inspections of sprinkler systems at LPG storage, hydrant systems, and pedestal fire alarms.
- Bi-monthly checks of fire detection and alarm systems, including follow-up reports and observations.
- Perform monthly fire safety inspections of the entire yard and conduct mock exercises at designated locations.
- Carry out annual fire surveys for new projects or modified sections and statutory testing of fire appliances/equipment.
- Provide fire safety training to HCSL employees and contract workers.
- Be prepared to travel on short notice and work towards set targets within specified timeframes.
- Liaise with various government and statutory agencies.
Remuneration Details
Age Limit
- The maximum age limit for the posts is 35 years as of 31.08.2024. Applicants must be born on or after 01.09.1989.
- Age relaxation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) and Ex-servicemen will follow Government of India guidelines. However, the age limit, after all relaxations, shall not exceed 45 years.
- For Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), a minimum disability degree of 40% is required. Applicants must provide a valid disability certificate in the prescribed format issued by a competent authority, as per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2017.
Method of Selection
The selection process will include both Objective and Descriptive type written tests.
Objective Type Written Test (80 Marks):
- General Knowledge: 30 Marks
- Discipline-Related: 50 Marks
- Duration: 90 minutes
Descriptive Type Written Test (20 Marks):
- Discipline-Related
- Duration: 45 minutes
Minimum Passing Marks:
- For unreserved posts: 50% of total marks in each test.
Selection Process:
- HCSL reserves the right to scrutinize applications and shortlist candidates based on eligibility and certificates submitted. Only shortlisted candidates will be invited to the selection process.
- Only candidates who successfully complete certificate verification will be allowed to participate in the tests, which will be held at HCSL, Howrah.
- Candidates who score the minimum required marks in the Objective Type Test will be shortlisted for certificate verification at a ratio of 1:6. HCSL may adjust the cut-off marks depending on the number of candidates.
- Those who pass certificate verification will be allowed to take the Phase II Descriptive Type Test, also at HCSL, Howrah.
- Rank lists will be prepared based on marks obtained in all tests. In case of ties in aggregate marks, seniority in age will determine relative merit.

- Complete the application form as per the Advertisement Notification and ensure all entries are correct.
- Incomplete applications, those in incorrect formats, illegible, without required enclosures, or unsigned will be rejected without further correspondence.
