Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata is looking for eligible Indian citizens to apply for the position of Junior Marine Engineer on a contract basis for three years. Check the age limit, eligibility criteria, application method below.

The Port of Kolkata, officially known as Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (formerly Kolkata Port Trust or Port of Calcutta), is the only major riverine port in India. It is located in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal, approximately 203 kilometers (126 miles) from the sea.

Age limit

  • Upper age limit not exceeding 50 years.

Eligibility Criteria

For Retired/Serving Officers of the Merchant Navy:

  1. Apprenticeship and Education:

    • Must have completed a full-time apprenticeship in an approved marine workshop.
    • Must have attended an approved course of engineering at a technical school simultaneously.
    • Must have passed the required examination for a diploma from the school.

    (Or)

  2. Marine Workshop Apprentices:

    • Must be eligible to appear for the Class IV Part 'A' Engineer's Examination of the Ministry of Transport (MOT).
    • Candidates with equivalent training and experience from the Indian Navy are also eligible.

For Retired Officers of the Indian Navy

  • Must have retired as Petty Officer Marine Engineering (POME) or Licentiate in Marine Engineering (LME).

Desirable

For Retired/Serving Officers of the Merchant Navy:

  • Must have sea-going experience or practical experience with diesel engines, or hold a Class IV 'B' certificate.

For Retired Officers of the Indian Navy:

  • Must have sea experience or practical experience with diesel and steam engines.

How to Apply?

Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria and agree to the terms and conditions for the Junior Marine Engineer (contract) position can apply by submitting their applications in hard copy, following the format provided in "Annexure-I," as per this PDF.

Applications must be submitted by June 20, 2024, and the envelope should be marked "Application for engagement as Jr. Marine Engineer (on contract)." Send the application to the Director, Marine Department, Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata, at 15, Strand Road, Kolkata - 700001.

Interview Process

Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria will be invited for a Written/Proficiency Test and/or Personal Interview. The date, time, and venue will be communicated later. Applicants should bring the original and one photocopy of the following documents to the interview:

  1. Age Proof Certificate (Birth Certificate issued by an appropriate authority or Admit card of Board Examination)
  2. Educational and Professional Qualification Certificates/Mark Sheets
  3. Experience Certificate(s)
  4. Two recent passport-size photographs
  5. Government-issued photo identity card (Voter ID, PAN Card, Passport, Driving License, etc.)
