The Seven Wonders of the World refers to the unique and remarkable constructions from ancient periods.  These Wonders are human-made creations that remark on the beauty of historical abundance and that were considered extraordinary in their period. The list has seven wonders because the Greeks believed that the number seven meant for perfection and abundance and it also compared to the number of planets known at that time including the Sun and Moon.

The old Seven Wonders of the World were selected by ancient Greek historians and these wonders were Built around 2500 BC to 200 AD. The Ancient Seven Wonders of the World reflects ancient engineering culture and is highly regarded in ancient times for its remarkable construction and historical achievements.

1. Great Pyramid of Giza

The Great Pyramid of Giza is the largest Egyptian pyramid and one of the ancient Seven Wonders of the World and it is the only one still existing today. It was built in the ancient period around 2600 BC and serves as a tomb for the pharaoh Khufu. This pyramid is constructed of more than two million stone blocks and used to have a shiny white limestone casing.

2. Hanging Gardens of Babylon

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon was one of the ancient seven wonders of the world. It was depicted as a great feat of engineering with an ascending sequence of terraces filled with a variety of trees, shrubs, and vines, resembling a large green mountain made of mud bricks.

It was believed that the Hanging Gardens of Babylon were built by King Nebuchadnezzar II around 600 BC during his period. It was said that it was made for his wife, Queen Amytis, who missed the green mountains of her homeland. 

3. Statue of Zeus at Olympia

The Statue of Zeus at Olympia was a giant statue made by a renowned Greek artist named Phidias around 435 BC. It was about 12.4 m which is approximately 41 feet tall, and almost touched the ceiling of the temple.

It showed Zeus, the king of the Greek gods, sitting on a throne which was decorated with ivory, gold, ebony, and precious stones, with a rod and a statue of the goddess Nike.  Later, it was destroyed before the end of the 6th century AD. 

4. Temple of Artemis at Ephesus

The Temple of Artemis, also called the Temple of Diana, was a big Greek temple in the old city of Ephesus, now in modern-day Turkey. It was one of the ancient seven wonders of the world.  It was dedicated to Artemis, a goddess worshiped by the Greeks and Romans. 

5. Mausoleum at Halicarnassus

The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus also called the Tomb of Mausolus was the biggest tomb built in ancient times in a place called Halicarnassus, which is now in Turkey.  It was one of the ancient seven wonders of the world. It was made for a man named Mausolus and his woman Artemisia II. The tomb was about 45 meters high and had statues on all four sides made by famous Greek artists.

6. Colossus of Rhodes

The Colossus of Rhodes was a statue of the sun god Helios which was built in the city of Rhodes on the island of Rhodes. It was built to celebrate the city's victory against a big army. The statue was as tall as the Statue of Liberty. Sadly, it fell down during an earthquake. 

7. Lighthouse of Alexandria

The Lighthouse of Alexandria also called Pharos of Alexandria was a tall building built by the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. It was on an island called Pharos in the city of Alexandria. It was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. People used it to guide ships at night by lighting a fire on top.

New 7 Wonders of the World

The Modern or New Seven Wonders of the World was chosen through a global voting poll. There were more than 100 million votes cast and in 2007, the New Seven Wonders of the World was named for the unique marvels and announced. It depicts modern engineering and culture and has gained importance in the 21st century.

Each Wonder has its own style and unique design that makes it stand apart from all other memorials and places in the world. Now, it has become everyone's dream to visit all these 7 Wonders of the World to witness the magic with their own eyes.

1. Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China is one of the new Seven Wonders of the world. It is a very long wall that was built to protect China from enemies. It was built by numerous different Chinese rulers over thousands of years.

It has a tall and thick wall consisting of towers and other buildings along it for warriors to watch for invaders which stretches over 13,000 miles. It has become one of the popular tourist places which has attracted many, and it is considered the symbol of China's history.

2. Petra, Jordan

Petra is an amazing old city in Jordan. Because of its pinkish color, it is called the Rose City. It is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Petra was built as a place for trade,  for the group of people, the Nabataeans. It is a popular tourist place because of its beautiful buildings etched into the rocks.

3. Christ the Redeemer, Brazil

Christ the Redeemer is a statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is built on the top of Corcovado Mountain and created in the Art Deco style. The statue is approximately 98 feet tall, and its arms stretch up to 92 feet wide. It is built with strengthened concrete and soapstone.

It has become a famous landmark in Brazil and Rio de Janeiro and people from all over the world visit this place and it is regarded as the symbol of Christianity. 

4. Machu Picchu, Peru

Machu Picchu is regarded as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, which is a testament to the outstanding engineering skills of the Inca civilization,  built in the 15th century.

It is located in the Andes Mountains, a mountain peak about 2,430 meters above sea level. People usually call it the "Lost City of the Incas." Machu Picchu is well-known for its well-preserved stone structures, including temples and houses.

5. Chichen Itza, Mexico

Chichen Itza is a big city in Mexico, built by the Maya people many years ago. It is one of the new seven wonders of the world which depicts the  Mayan civilization.  Chichen Itza has become one of the most famous tourist places in Mexico. 

6. Roman Colosseum, Italy

The Colosseum is the largest oval-shaped amphitheater located in Rome, Italy. It was completed in 80 AD as a gift for the Romans from the emperor. It is also regarded as a symbol of ancient Rome.

7. Taj Mahal, India

The Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders of the world. It was a beautiful architecture built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to honor his wife Mumtaz. It is located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India on the right bank of the river Yamuna.

It is a beautiful white ivory marble mausoleum known for its intricate marble carvings, attractive gardens, and reflecting pool. It is depicted as the symbol of love and millions of people from all over the world visit every year and it is attracted by many.
