The series has been released on various video game and handheld consoles, featuring different genres, predominantly role-playing games and fighting games. The Grand Battle! sub-series is an example of the latter. The series debuted in Japan on July 19, 2000, with From TV Animation – One Piece: Become the Pirate King! (One Piece: Mezase Kaizoku Ou!).

It consists of 56 games, including 11 mobile games, not counting appearances in crossover entries. One Piece: Grand Battle! Rush was released outside Japan on September 7, 2005, more than five years after the anime series debut.

Out of 38 games (excluding non-Japanese games), 13 have been released in Europe, two in Australia, and the rest in North America. The demand for these games in Japan often leads to hasty production with low regard for quality.  However, the One Piece video game was produced exclusively for and released in North American markets, earning the title of "GBA Platformer of the Year" in 2005 by GameSpy's network of game websites.
