The pujas are performed in the traditional manner daily. The murthis are devotedly bathed and dressed and offered flowers, incense, sandal paste, and food. The quantities and types of food offerings were dictated by Sri Ramakrishna to Annada Thakur in dreams, and these instructions are still followed today. As the temple itself is relatively small inside, the food offerings will be made in the nearby Bhog Ghar. It is a separate building in full view of the temple altar. The food is then offered and distributed as prasad to all visitors.

Adyapith Temple Altars

The main altar takes an unusual configuration: 3 altars, one atop the other, like stairsteps. There is a murthi of Sri Ramakrishna on the bottom altar, with the word “Guru” carved nearby. On the central altar, there is a replica of the murthi of Adya Ma discovered by Annada Thakur in the Eden Garden. This murthi was made of 8 metals. Nearby was inscribed “Knowledge and Work.” The topmost altar was adorned by the murthis of Radha and Krishna, the Divine Couple in Hinduism. They were encircled by the sacred syllable Om, and the word “Love” was inscribed at their feet. Love is the greatest virtue and the most obvious path to God.
