Alfa Barrie Cause of Death

Two boys who were reported missing and subsequently found dead in different rivers in Manhattan are believed to have been last seen playing together at the water's edge, according to information from a law enforcement source. Alfa Barrie, 11, and Garrett Warren, 13, were seen together in Harlem between May 12 and May 13 before they were reported missing at different times, according to the New York Police Department.

The bodies of the boys were discovered by the department's harbor unit several days apart, with Alfa Barrie found in the Harlem River and Garrett Warren found in the Hudson River.  The cause of Garrett's death has been determined to be an accidental drowning, while the cause and manner of Alfa's death are pending further examination by the medical examiner's office, conducted on Sunday.

According to the law enforcement source, another teenage boy, who was reportedly present at the scene, provided an account stating that Alfa and Garrett were playing near the water's edge. Allegedly, one of the boys pushed the other toward the water, and both ended up entering the water.  The third boy briefly saw them but did not witness them resurfacing or getting out of the water.

A couple of hours later, he approached an adult who called 911 and provided a description of the incident to the police. Despite efforts by the police, including the deployment of harbor units, divers, boats, and helicopters, the boys could not be located immediately. A search continued over the following days, and eventually, Garrett's body was found near the Madison Avenue Bridge in the Harlem River on Thursday.

Two days later, Alfa's body was discovered in the Hudson River near the Upper West Side. Due to the absence of video cameras in the area, detectives are currently reconstructing the boys' activities leading up to the incident. Alfa was reported missing in the early morning of May 14, and Garrett was reported missing in the afternoon of May 15, according to the police. Although the boys attended different schools, they were believed to be friends. Family and friends gathered at a mosque in the Bronx after Alfa's body was found, as reported by ABC 7.

What Happened to Alfa Barrie?

A Bronx community is making preparations to honor the memory of an 11-year-old boy who, along with his 13-year-old friend, went missing earlier this month and tragically had his body discovered in the Hudson River over the weekend, as confirmed by authorities. The other boy, identified as Garrett Warren from Harlem, was found in the Harlem River, which lies between the Hudson and East Rivers, in close proximity to the area where the NYPD had been conducting their search.

Meanwhile, the family of Garrett Warren, as well as the family of 11-year-old Alfa Barrie, whose body was recovered, find themselves grappling with numerous unanswered questions. They wonder how Barrie's body ended up so far from Warren's if they had entered the water together at the same location. They also contemplate the possibility of any criminal involvement, as the boys had never run off before.

The medical examiner's office has determined that Warren's cause of death was accidental drowning, while further investigation is required to determine the cause and manner of Barrie's death. According to law enforcement sources familiar with the case, a teenager claimed to have witnessed Warren and Barrie playing near the water's edge at 145th Street on the night of May 12, the same night they went missing.

The witness reported that one of the boys attempted to push the other toward the river, resulting in both of them entering the water. Subsequently, the teenage witness fled the area and later shared their account with the police.

The NYPD has been working to identify all the other children who were present with Warren and Barrie, and they are seeking to speak with their classmates. While some may find it alarming that the boys were found in separate rivers on opposite sides of Manhattan, a marine expert explained to NBC New York that it is plausible for a body to drift from the Harlem River to the Hudson River.
