Ao No Orchestra Season 1 Episode 1 Recap
Aono Hajime, a teenage violin prodigy, reminisces about his glory days performing for crowds. Lacking prowess in sports, he heads to the infirmary where he hears a girl humming. Later at home, his mother asks him to enter a locked room to kill a cockroach, a room that had been closed since the past.
This room is where Hajime had spent most of his life practicing the violin with his father. However, it had been a year since he had last entered it, and upon doing so, he is struck by old memories and finds it difficult to sleep. During a career counseling session, his PE teacher questions Hajime's lack of ambition.
Hajime constantly hears the sound of the violin, and the teacher reveals that a girl named Akine has been playing it in the infirmary despite his objections. It is later revealed that Hajime's father, a famous violinist, had pressured him to play the violin, even if it meant sacrificing his health. After his father abandoned him and his mother for another woman, Hajime quit playing the violin altogether.
During a physical education class, Hajime sustains a head injury and is told to rest in the infirmary. There, a girl plays the violin poorly, prompting Hajime to wake up and criticize her. Their teacher arrives and reveals that she is playing his violin, as he used to be a part of the Orchestra club in his school days. He then declares that Hajime will be Akine's new violin teacher.
