Assassin's Creed Mirage

Assassin's Creed Mirage is an action-adventure game made by Ubisoft Bordeaux and published by Ubisoft. It's the thirteenth major game in the Assassin's Creed series and comes after the 2020 game, Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Although the game's historical setting is before Valhalla, the modern-day story happens after Valhalla's events. The game takes place in 9th-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age, specifically during the Anarchy at Samarra.

It follows the story of Basim Ibn Ishaq, who was introduced in Valhalla as a street thief who joins the Hidden Ones to fight against the Order of the Ancients. This Order wants peace through control. The main story focuses on Basim's inner struggle between his Hidden One duties and his quest to uncover his mysterious past.

Originally, Mirage was supposed to be an expansion for Valhalla, but it became a standalone game to make it bigger. The game's design focuses on bringing back the series' original elements like stealth, parkour, and assassinations, rather than the recent role-playing features. This makes the game smaller in scale compared to its predecessors but combines elements from both recent and older Assassin's Creed games.

Assassin's Creed Mirage was released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on October 5, 2023. There's also a mobile version planned for iOS on iPhone 15 Pro models in early 2024. The game received mostly positive reviews from critics, who liked its world design and focus on stealth, although some had criticisms about the characters and the reliance on past games in the series.

Assassin's Creed Mirage Gameplay

Assassin's Creed Mirage is an action-adventure stealth game that brings back the feel of older Assassin's Creed games by focusing more on the story and reducing role-playing elements. In this game, you'll use parkour, close-quarter combat, and stealth to navigate and complete your missions. For assassinations, the game uses the "Black Box" design, where you explore your surroundings to find different ways to reach and eliminate your targets.

Most of the action happens in the city of Baghdad, divided into four districts, with additional smaller towns on the outskirts. Unlike recent Assassin's Creed games, the city is smaller, more like those in Unity and Revelations. The main character, Basim, has various weapons and tools, including the Hidden Blade, smoke bombs, throwing knives, and poison darts, which can be upgraded.

Basim also has an Eagle Vision and a bird companion named Enkidu. The game introduces a new skill called "Assassin Focus" for taking down multiple enemies, and you can use poles to cross wide gaps. The game's animations have been improved for better movement and flow, taking inspiration from samurai, ninja, and even Jedi for added mobility.

 Assassin's Creed Mirage Plot

In the plot of Assassin's Creed Mirage, after the events of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, modern-day Assassins use Basim Ibn Ishaq's blood to explore his past memories in the time of the Abbasid Caliphate. In 861 CE, Basim is a young thief in Anbar, haunted by visions of a monstrous jinni that his friend Nehal helps him cope with. Despite wanting to join the Hidden Ones, he's rejected by senior Hidden One Roshan.

To prove himself, he steals a valuable artifact, but it leads to a confrontation with the Caliph and Nehal saving him. This leads to a series of events, including the murder of the Caliph, the slaughter of thieves in Anbar, and Basim joining the Hidden Ones.

In Baghdad, Basim uncovers the Order of the Ancients' influence and sets out to stop their sinister plans while reuniting with Nehal, who encourages him to explore Isu artifacts. As the story unfolds, Basim's true identity as an Isu named Loki is revealed, and he embarks on a new path, leaving much to be discovered in this intriguing tale.
