Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves are a professional baseball team based in the Atlanta metropolitan area. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as part of the National League (NL) East division. The Braves have a long and storied history, dating back to their establishment as the Boston Red Stockings in 1871.

Over the years, the team underwent several name changes before becoming the Boston Braves in 1912. Remarkably, the Braves hold the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating professional sports franchise in the United States.

After spending 81 seasons in Boston and winning one World Series title, the team relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1953. It was during this time that the Milwaukee Braves experienced success, capturing the World Series championship in 1957.

However, despite the presence of standout players like Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, and Warren Spahn, fan attendance declined, prompting the owners to move the team once again. In 1966, the Braves found their new home in Atlanta, Georgia.

Although it took some time for the Braves to establish themselves in Atlanta, their fortunes changed in 1991. From 1991 to 2005, the team enjoyed tremendous success, securing an unprecedented 14 consecutive division titles, a record that stands to this day.

They also made eight consecutive appearances in the National League Championship Series and possessed one of the most formidable pitching rotations in baseball history, featuring Hall of Famers Greg Maddux, John Smoltz, and Tom Glavine.

The Braves are one of the two remaining charter franchises from the National League's inaugural season in 1876. Throughout their history, they have achieved remarkable accomplishments, including winning a record 22 divisional titles, 18 National League pennants, and four World Series championships.

Notably, the Braves are the only MLB franchise to have won the World Series in three different cities they have called home. As of the end of the 2022 season, the Braves' overall win-loss record stands at 10,921-10,818, with a winning percentage of .502.
