Who was Avicii?

Avicii was a DJ, remixer, and music producer from Sweden. When he was 16 years old, Avicii started sharing his remixes on electronic music forums, which resulted in his first record deal. He became prominent in 2011 with his single "Levels." Avicii’s debut studio album, True, mixed electronic music with elements of many genres and received positive reviews. Avicii peaked in the Top 10 list in over 15 countries and topped the international charts. Avicii's lead single, "Wake Me Up", topped most music markets in Europe and reached number four in the United States. Tim Bergling is the real name of Avicii.

After many years of being affected by stress and poor mental health, Avicii retired from touring in 2016. On April 20, 2018, Avicii committed suicide while on vacation in Muscat, Oman. In 2019, Avicii’s final album was released posthumously. Avicii's body was found on April 20th in Muscat, Oman, where he had been on vacation. Consequently, an autopsy reported "no criminal suspicion" of his death. In 2012, Avicii’s collaboration track "Sunshine" with David Guetta got a Grammy nomination in the category for Best Dance Recording.

Throughout his life, Avicii faced a number of health issues, which included acute pancreatitis, in part because of his excessive drinking. In 2014, Avicii had surgery to remove his appendix and gallbladder. These problems eventually made Avicii retire from touring in 2016, though he continued to pursue new music. In 2015, Avicii successfully released his second studio album, Stories. In 2017, Avicii released an EP, Avici. Avicii’s catalog included the singles "I Could Be the One" with Nicky Romero, "X You"," "You Make Me", Hey Brother", "The Days", "Addicted to You," "Without You", "Waiting for Love", "The Nights", and "Lonely Together."

How did Avicii Die?

The official cause of Avicii’s death was given as blood loss, but his family said that it was suicide. Avicii struggled with addiction and physical and mental health issues at the time of his career and consequently made the decision to quit touring in 2016. In the documentary Avicii: True Stories, the audience is told of his problems with alcohol abuse, which resulted in his being hospitalized while in Australia for a tour. In it, he says,  ‘Having the pancreatitis wasn’t the problem". He added that it was the pain that remained with his fans afterward.

Avicii passed away on April 20, 2018, in Muscat, Oman. He battled with physical and mental health issues at the time of his career and so decided to exit touring altogether in 2016. In a statement released, the family of Avicii mentioned suicide as the cause of his death. They added that when Avicii stopped touring, he wished to get a balance in life to be happy and must do what he loved most, the music. They said that Avicii really fought with thoughts about meaning, life, and happiness. They added that he could not go any further. He wished for peace.

He began mixing when he was eight years old.  Avicii was inspired by his brother, who was also a DJ. He started making music at the age of 16, self-teaching himself to use a pirated copy of FL Studio. In May 2007, Avicii signed with the Dejfitts Plays label.
