Baldurs Gate 3 Plot
The protagonist wakes up inside a giant ship belonging to mind flayers, creatures that implant people with parasitic tadpoles. The ship gets attacked by githyanki warriors, and the protagonist escapes with other survivors. They all have tadpoles implanted in them.
The party tries different ways to remove the tadpoles but fails. They find a "Dream Visitor" inside Shadowheart's prism, which protects them from the tadpoles' psychic influence. They then get involved in a conflict between druids and tiefling refugees against goblins worshipping a cult called the "Absolute".
They travel to Moonrise Towers to find a cure. There, they learn about General Ketheric Thorm's plan to use a relic called the "Nightsong" for immortality. The party confronts Ketheric and learns about the Absolute, an Elder Brain controlling those with tadpoles.
In Baldur's Gate, they face off against Ketheric's allies, Orin and Gortash, who manipulate them. They discover that the "Dream Visitor" is actually an illithid called the Emperor, who uses a githyanki prisoner named Orpheus for psionic resistance.
The protagonist confronts Orin and Gortash, trying to subdue the Elder Brain. They realize the Netherstones need Orpheus' powers. They either free Orpheus or sacrifice him to defeat the Elder Brain.
Finally, the protagonist can choose to kill the Elder Brain and end the threat or betray their friends and rule with the Absolute's power.
