On April 26, 2023, a 43-year-old woman named Hannah Landon was arrested for allegedly killing six-year-old Bella Fontenelle, the daughter of her boyfriend, in Harahan, Louisiana. Bella's father discovered that both Bella and Hannah were missing and reported the girl's disappearance to the police. On April 26, 2023, law enforcement agencies, including the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and the agency’s Major Crimes Task Force, made a gruesome discovery at a house in Harahan, located approximately 10 miles west of New Orleans. According to a press release, Bella Fontenelle's remains were found inside a large plastic bucket outside her biological mother's house, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation into Bella's death, officers obtained surveillance footage from a Ring doorbell camera. The footage from the night before showed Hannah Landon, the suspect, pulling a wagon with a bucket down Donelon and Sedgefield drives of Harahan at around 9:33 pm local time. In the disturbing video, Landon made no effort to conceal the bucket or the child's body as vehicles passed by. She is being held without bond at Jefferson Parish Correctional Center and is under suicide watch. If convicted, Landon could face the death penalty. Bella's father, Michael Fontenelle, has not made a public statement about the tragedy yet. Both of Bella's parents were reported to be "extremely upset" by the situation, according to local law enforcement.
