Ben Bennett Skiing Accident
Ben was 21 years old when he died in a horrific skiing accident on January 18, 2023, just weeks before his 22nd birthday. It is my belief that he would have wanted a memorial service to be held in his honour, so the funds will be used to organise such an event. Gregory Keeler, the state-owned resort's director of sales and marketing, previously stated that Bennett was an experienced skier.
Bennett, according to Keeler, was skiing with friends before going missing after not being seen for about 90 minutes. Ski patrol first responders discovered him dead in the woods off Cannon's Upper Ravine trail. The mountain's website rates the trail as intermediate.
What Happened To Ben Bennett?
On Wednesday, a 21-year-old man died while skiing at Cannon Mountain in Franconia, New Hampshire. It is the second fatal skiing accident in three days in New Hampshire. Last Monday, a 15-year-old boy died in an accident at Gunstock Mountain in Gilford, New Hampshire.
According to WMUR, the man who died at Cannon was identified as Ben Bennett of Raymond, New Hampshire. Bennett, a neuroscience student at the University of New Hampshire, is remembered as cheerful and kind. At 2:12 p.m., Cannon Mountain Ski Patrol received a report of a missing skier.
How Did Ben Bennett Die?
Bennett's friends told the patrol that they hadn't seen him in about an hour and a half, according to Gregory Keeler, a Cannon spokesperson. On Wednesday, Pitkin and two other friends went skiing with Bennett. Pitkin told WMUR that Bennett was an experienced skier, but the hazy conditions on the mountain made the slopes dangerous.
Bennett was eventually found in the woods off the Upper Ravine trail by a team. He had suffered serious trauma and showed "no signs of life," according to Keeler. Keeler stated that he was wearing a helmet.
Who Are Ben Bennett's Parents?
Bennett's family established a GoFundMe page to raise funds for a memorial service, to pay off his car so that it could remain in the family, and to assist Bennett's siblings in travelling to New Hampshire. As of Sunday evening, it had raised more than $15,000.
The family is planning a memorial service at the Crossroads Church in Pelham on Wednesday at 7pm, followed by a celebration of life at the Derryfield Country Club in Manchester at 5 p.m.
"Friends and family affectionately remember him as someone who lived life to the fullest. He is known by all as someone who was funny, kind, generous, intelligent, and hardworking," according to the obituary. "Ben knew no strangers and made every person feel like the most important person in the room."
Bennett graduated as valedictorian of his high school class and was dubbed the "class clown." At Portsmouth Regional Hospital, he was a supervisor in the sterile processing unit.
His parents, Norman and Cindy Bennett, and 12 siblings survive him.
