In January 2011, Bethany Decker went missing under mysterious circumstances. After returning from a vacation in Hawaii with her husband Emile, she spent the night at her grandparents' home in Maryland. The next day, she was reportedly seen by Emile and later by Ronald Roldan at their Ashburn apartment. However, no one else saw her after that.  Friends and family initially didn't worry about Bethany's absence due to her busy life, juggling classes and work.

Concerns arose when friends received suspicious messages from her Facebook account. By February 19, her grandparents found her apartment oddly parked with a flat tire and reported her missing to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. Investigations focused on Emile and Roldan, both involved in a love triangle with Bethany. Emile cooperated with law enforcement, but Roldan, with a criminal record, became a person of interest.

Despite searches and forensic examinations, no evidence was found. Years later, in 2014, Roldan was arrested in North Carolina for assaulting a new girlfriend, Vickey Willoughby. In 2015, he faced additional charges for attempted murder. He later accepted a plea deal in 2016, serving time for assault. In 2020, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office charged Roldan with Bethany's abduction.

On November 17, 2022, he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. In a plea deal, Roldan admitted to disposing of Bethany's body in a trash compactor, but her remains remain undiscovered. The case underscores the tragic end to Bethany Decker's disappearance and the legal consequences for Ronald Roldan.
