Big Brother is a popular TV show where people live together in a special house without any connection to the outside world. They're watched all the time by cameras and microphones. The show's name comes from a character in a book called "Nineteen Eighty-Four" by George Orwell.
In the show, called "Big Brother," the people living in the house are called "housemates" or "HouseGuests." They compete to stay in the house, and each week, someone gets voted out until only one person is left. That person wins a prize of money. Since it started in 1999 in the Netherlands, Big Brother has been shown in over 63 countries and regions.
People often shorten the name to "BB" for English versions. In Spanish-speaking countries, it's often called "Gran Hermano" (GH). Up to August 5, 2023, there have been 508 seasons of the show.
