He was also an unsuccessful candidate for the 2010 Oregon gubernatorial election. Bradbury was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1949, and grew up there until his parents' death in an automobile accident in Montana when he was 9 years old.
He and his sister were then raised by their aunt and uncle in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. Bradbury attended the University of Chicago Laboratory High School and later Antioch College in Ohio, where he studied communications. In 1969, he moved to Oregon and worked as a news reporter, director, and producer in various cities, including Bandon, Eugene, and Portland.
