Bioshock 2  Wiki

BioShock 2 is a video game that falls under the first-person shooter genre and was developed by 2K Marin, published by 2K Games. The game was released worldwide on February 9, 2010, for PlayStation 3, Windows, and Xbox 360, with an OS X version being released by Feral Interactive on March 30, 2012.

The game is set in the underwater city of Rapture, a dystopian society, eight years after the events of the original BioShock. In the single-player campaign, players take control of the armored protagonist Subject Delta, fighting against Splicers, the city's psychotic human population, using various genetic modifications and weapons.

The game also features a story-driven multiplayer mode set during Rapture's civil war, which takes place before the events of the original game.

The success of BioShock prompted 2K Games to establish a new studio, 2K Marin, to develop the sequel, with additional support provided by 2K Australia, Arkane Studios, and Digital Extremes. The developers focused on improving gameplay elements from the original game and revisiting Rapture to explore a new perspective on the city.

The game's story underwent significant changes during development, with the game's composer, Garry Schyman, returning to expand the sonic palette of the game's music to include more blues and religious music to reflect the game's themes.

BioShock 2 received positive reviews from critics, with praise directed at its narrative, themes, art style, characters, endings, and gameplay. Criticisms were levelled at the game's slow start and failure to distinguish itself from the original BioShock.

The game's multiplayer mode received support through downloadable content, and a single-player campaign expansion, Minerva's Den, was released in August 2010. Although the game sold over 3 million copies, it did not meet the publisher's sales expectations.

Retrospectives have since re-evaluated BioShock 2 as a worthy entry in the series, with some considering it the best. A remastered version of the game was included in BioShock: The Collection, which was released for PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Bioshock 2 Gameplay

In BioShock 2, players take on the role of Subject Delta eight years after the events of the original BioShock game. The game is a first-person shooter where players explore the underwater city of Rapture and fight off Splicers using weapons, environmental hazards, and plasmids.

Plasmids are abilities that grant powers like telekinesis and require recharging with "EVE" before further use. In addition to plasmids, players can equip tonics that provide passive bonuses such as increased speed or reduced EVE usage.

Weapons unique to the Big Daddy, like the powerful drill and rivet gun, are available for use in the game, and players can use each weapon in close-range melee attacks. If the player dies, they can be revived via "vita-chambers."

Players scavenge for ammunition and supplies as they explore Rapture and can purchase items at vending machines scattered throughout the city. Players can also upgrade weapons at certain machines, and ammunition can be loaded with different types to increase effectiveness against specific types of enemies.

Some game mechanics, like hacking into security systems and turrets, were streamlined compared to the original BioShock game. The research camera mechanic was also altered to record video instead of stills.

ADAM is used to upgrade plasmids and tonics. Upgraded plasmids provide additional abilities, and as a Big Daddy, players can defeat other Big Daddies and either adopt their Little Sisters or harvest them for their ADAM. A

dopted Little Sisters gather ADAM for the player, and players must escort them to corpses to collect more ADAM. Once the Little Sister has collected enough ADAM, players can choose to harvest or save her, with each option leading to different consequences.

BioShock 2 also features a story-driven multiplayer mode called Fall of Rapture, where players take on the role of Rapture's citizens during the 1959–1960 civil war. In the multiplayer mode, players can customize their characters and equipped weapons and plasmids from their apartment, which serves as an optional visual representation of the game's menus.

The mode includes seven different game modes, including deathmatch, capture the flag, and territory control. As players progress, they can unlock new weapons, tonics, and plasmids, and story-related audio diaries become available in the player's apartment.
