While traveling along the Rise Road, you'll come across a cave where two people are trapped, surrounded by a gnoll horde. You have the option to reach them from the other side of the cave, but you'll need to dodge a boulder and move some barrels to do so.
To defeat the gnolls and rescue the trapped individuals, position your characters on nearby high grounds. Additionally, you can use the tadpole's psionic power to turn the gnoll warlord against her pack and even force her to devour herself after the fight.
Keep an eye out for a Mind Flayer Parasite Specimen, which can be found on Flind, the Gnoll Warlord.
If you enter the cave from the other side, you can allow the caravanners to flee and take on the gnolls yourself.
After saving the men, they will invite you to their hideout.
Inside the caravan strongbox, you can find some gold and the artifact called the Iron Flask. However, be cautious, as removing the stopper from the flask will summon a Spectator. This action may lead to being locked out of friendly interactions with the Zhentarim and possibly their powerful wizard client in Baldur's Gate.
The hideout is located at Waukeen's Rest, specifically in a wine cellar. To gain entry, you can either persuade Salazon or use the password provided by the caravaneers.
Once inside the hideout, search the wardrobe to find Zarys.
Opening of Caravan Strongbox

You have the option to leave the chest untouched and prioritize helping the individuals trapped in the cave. If you choose this path, they will express their gratitude and reward you with a password to a secret drinking spot, inviting you to join them for a drink.
However, if you decide to interact with the chest, the two individuals will give you a warning not to touch it. If you ignore their warning and touch the chest again, they will become hostile and initiate a fight, attempting to kill you. If you manage to defeat them, you can loot the area and then face the task of either picking the lock on the chest or carrying it with you.
If you decide to open the chest, you will find a few valuable items inside, including some gold, a gem, and an Iron Flask. While the Iron Flask is a real item from Dungeons & Dragons, this particular Flask already contains something within it. If you choose to throw it away, a powerful creature, specifically a level 5 Spectator (or possibly another level depending on your gameplay), will spawn and go on a destructive rampage.
Taking on the Spectator can be challenging, as it possesses multiple beam attacks that have the potential to paralyze, put characters to sleep, and inflict significant damage. Furthermore, the creature has the ability to fly, making it even more formidable in battle.
If you manage to defeat the Spectator, you may not receive any valuable loot from its body, making it less rewarding to face the creature. As a result, it's important to carefully consider the risks before opening the Iron Flask and releasing the powerful Spectator. Proceeding with caution and weighing the potential consequences will help you make the best decision in this situation.
