Catch The Fair One Review

"Catch the Fair One" is a film that delves into the dark world of trafficking, particularly focusing on the plight of Native American women. Directed by Josef Wladyka and executive produced by Darren Aronofsky, the movie tells the story of Kaylee, played by Kali Reis, a former boxer who joins trafficking ring in an attempt to find her missing sister.

The film tackles the subject matter with a sense of urgency and gravity, shedding light on the pervasive issue of human trafficking and the disappearance of Native women. It highlights the disturbing reality that these women are dehumanized and reduced to nameless "batches," emphasizing the enormity of the evil that exists in this world. The line "You think I remember their names?" serves as a poignant reminder of the devaluation and disregard for the individuality and humanity of the victims.

Kali Reis, a real-life world champion boxer and Native woman, brings authenticity and a personal connection to the role of Kaylee. Her performance is gripping, capturing the unprocessed grief and unwavering determination of a sister desperate to find her sibling. Catch The Fair One Plot

Kaylee, a Native American woman who was once a skilled boxer, now struggles with addiction and lives in a shelter while working as a waitress. Some time ago, her younger sister Weeta was abducted and forced into a trafficking ring, becoming one of the countless missing girls. Determined to find her sister, Kaylee continues her search.

After receiving a lead on Weeta's location, Kaylee meets the procurer of a local trafficking ring. The man subjects her to degrading treatment, photographing her, drugging her, and engaging in lewd behavior. He informs Kaylee that she will be sold to a man seeking a "Native girl."

Bobby, the son of the ring's leader, Willie, chloroforms Kaylee and takes her to the buyer's residence. When she regains consciousness, she finds herself alone in a basement. Using a razor blade concealed in her mouth, she frees herself. Just as Bobby and the buyer return, Bobby confronts Kaylee, aware of her intentions and claiming that she will never find her sister.

Bobby leaves the room, and as the buyer prepares to assault her, Kaylee defends herself by using the razor blade to kill the buyer. She escapes, but Willie and his associates arrive to dispose of the body. Kaylee returns to the house and hides in Bobby's car, witnessing Willie strike Bobby and order him to leave.

Bobby returns home to his wife Linda and their son Junior. Taking advantage of Bobby's absence from the room, Kaylee enters the house, restraining the family and preventing them from making noise. When Bobby returns, a fierce fight ensues, with Kaylee utilizing her boxing skills to gain the upper hand.

After subduing him, Kaylee demands information about her sister, but Bobby remains defiant. Kaylee stabs him in the leg, threatens to harm Linda, and begins to waterboard Bobby. Despite the torture, Bobby refuses to cooperate and ultimately drowns.

Kaylee interrogates Linda and discovers that Willie possesses a train yard where he plans to transport the next group of abducted girls. Armed only with Bobby's gun, Kaylee heads to the train yard. Holding one of Willie's truck drivers at gunpoint, she learns that the girls are located in a nearby warehouse.

Instructing them to flee, Kaylee encounters the procurer from earlier, who spots her and attempts to escape. Kaylee shoots him multiple times before questioning him. As he pleads for mercy, she coldly walks away, leaving him to bleed out.

Kaylee reveals that she has hidden Linda and Junior in her car. She instructs Linda to take Junior to Willie's mansion. Inside the mansion, Linda is greeted by Willie's wife, Debra, who reveals that Linda used to visit them whenever Bobby turned violent. While in the bathroom, Linda sends Kaylee the correct information about Willie's location but also contacts emergency services.

Holding Willie at gunpoint, Kaylee demands answers about Weeta. Debra suddenly enters the room with a firearm and accidentally shoots Willie in the face. In response, Kaylee fatally shoots Debra as Debra fires another shot, hitting Kaylee in the stomach. In her final moments, Kaylee envisions what her life could have been had she succeeded, picturing herself entering a victorious boxing match.
