Daytime Emmy Awards

The Daytime Emmy Awards are a segment of the Emmy Awards, presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) to acknowledge excellence in American daytime television programming. The awards were first presented in 1974, extending the original prime-time-themed Emmy Awards. The NATAS, based in New York, bestows awards in recognition of artistic and technical merit in the television industry. Typically, the ceremonies are held in either May or June.

Daytime Emmys Nominations 2023 List

The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards nominations have been announced by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). The awards ceremony will be aired live on June 16, 2023 on CBS and Paramount+. The complete list of nominees was unveiled on April 26, following the announcement of five categories on various entertainment news shows the previous night.

Initially, CBS’s The Young and the Restless led the nominations with six nods, including three in the Lead Actress category. However, after the complete list was revealed, ABC’s General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful took the lead with 19 and 14 nominations, respectively. The full list of nominees can be seen below, and a more detailed list will be available later today.

Why is it Called Daytime Emmy?

The inaugural Daytime Emmy Awards were presented in 1972 as a subset of the Primetime Emmy Awards. The Doctors and General Hospital received nominations for Outstanding Achievement in a Daytime Drama. The Doctors won the first-ever Best Show, Daytime Emmy, that year, which led to the development of separate Daytime Emmy Awards from 1974. These awards recognize excellence in American daytime television programming and are bestowed by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS).
