Den of Thieves Ending Explained

The conclusion of Den of Thieves sees Big Nick discovering that the stolen Federal Reserve money was destroyed and Donnie managed to escape. He pays a visit to Ziggy's Hafbrau, where he previously confronted Donnie. Meanwhile, Merrimen's crew carries out the Federal Reserve heist as planned, but O'Shea Jackson Jr.'s character, Donnie, is caught and provides information on the group's rally point. Merrimen, Bosco, and Levi attempt to escape but Merrimen loses contact with Mack after learning of Donnie's capture. The movie's climax features a shootout during a traffic jam, resulting in the deaths of Merrimen, Bosco, and Levi.

After reflecting on past conversations, Big Nick realizes that Donnie was the true mastermind behind the heist. A montage reveals that Donnie had collected information for a long time and presented a plan to his former Marine friend, Merrimen. The movie's final moments show Donnie in London, where he is planning to rob a diamond exchange.

Den of Thieves Plot

Den of Thieves is a movie about a group of ex-Marines led by Ray Merrimen who rob an armored truck in Los Angeles. Detective Nick O'Brien is assigned to investigate the case, and he believes that Merrimen is the mastermind behind the robbery. Later, Merrimen and his team plan to rob the Federal Reserve and steal untraceable money before it is shredded. They suspect Donnie, a bartender who acts as the getaway driver, of being an informant, but Merrimen orders him to tell Nick when the heist will happen. Donnie informs Nick but denies knowing the location. Nick sleeps with Merrimen's girlfriend, who tells him the crew will rob a bank in Pico Rivera. During the heist, the crew takes hostages and detonates explosives in the vault. Nick storms the bank to find the hostages alive, while the thieves escape through the sewers. Merrimen and Enson infiltrate the Federal Reserve, and Donnie triggers an electromagnetic pulse to disable the cameras as he sends the money earmarked for shredding down the trash chute. The thieves intercept the garbage truck containing the money and are pursued by Nick's team. A shootout ensues, and Merrimen and Enson are killed. Donnie has escaped, and Nick realizes he was the true mastermind behind the heist. He shipped the money offshore and escaped to London, where he is planning to rob a diamond exchange.

Den of Thieves Plot Twist

In the movie "Den of Thieves", Donnie steals money from the Federal Reserve and keeps it in a secret bag, while Bas and Alexi are involved in different aspects of the heist. Donnie expresses his control over his surroundings and plans for the next job while bartending at a pub with the others. The director, Christian Gudegast, attempted to make the film feel authentic by hiring a technical advisor and using sources from the LAPD, the military, and a former Hell's Angels leader. While critics may criticize the film's narrative and Gerard Butler's acting, the mix of reality and fantasy makes it appealing to general moviegoers. Gudegast believes that truth is more fascinating than fiction.
